It happened to me one time working for my the company I got my start with. I’m in a 40 ‘hole, mud’s dry and tell the guy to give it a drink. Revs up the front dump, Gives is some water, takes off and smashes into the pump! I yell up “You bleeped up my truck bleeping bleeper” Pump on…I didn’t have a dime into it!

My back was sore from loading hoses so I tried to get a job driving mixer...... They said sorry, if you can run a pump then you have too many brain cells to drive ready-mix

If a mixer driver hit hard enough to move a pump on its outriggers with the boom unfolded . I think I would have the pump inspected for damage and have the supplier pay for it. Welds break and outriggers do bend.

It is not just the ready mix driver who is at fault, the ready mix salesman should stress to all drivers to NEVER back up to a pump un-aided,period.The job super should also be at fault for not supplying a spotter.Even with a spotter pumps still get hit by mixer trucks and most of the time the spotter has no clue what could happen behind that hopper.I am at the point now that if the drivers start backing unaided,I get out of the way and as far as i am concerned they can push the hopper through the back window of the cab. Please dont blame the drivers,ALL the blame should be put on the higher ups for inproper training and pump ettiquitte.I have seen sales reps with large companies backing trucks TOTALLY WRONG,and if I say something 99% of the time they answer with a,"I know what i am doing, just run your boom".Until some poor finisher filling up his bucket with water gets smashed like a mosquito, nothing will change.

The first photo is a cruel joke we have all been through. Always happens you worry about concrete splashes afound the hopper and leave the job site with the hopper mangled. Suddenly the splashes arent relevant anymore.
