Easymix Concrete of Croydon, South London has taken delivery of a new Volvo FL-210 4×2 rigid from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London at Croydon. The 12-tonne GVW truck with rear air suspension, is fitted with a Schwing Stetter SP500 groundline concrete pump capable of placing some 50m3 of ready-mix concrete per hour.

Managing Director at Easymix Concrete, Steve Brown says: “This is a pretty unusual unit as Schwing Stetter doesn’t tend to mount its pumps on Volvo trucks. That said; we absolutely wanted to use a Volvo FL and Schwing Stetter in Hanger Lane, Perivale carried out the work and handled the Whole Vehicle Type Approval for us.”

The new Volvo joins nine truck mixers at Easymix Concrete, most of which are Volvo. “To me, the Volvo dealership here in Croydon is ahead of the game. The staff are doers and not simply talkers, and when needed, they pull out all the stops to keep us on the road. The relationship we have means I can concentrate on supplying concrete in the knowledge that Volvo is supporting me,” Steve adds.

The FL has a 4.7m wheelbase and is powered by a Volvo D5K210 four cylinder, 5.1 litre engine producing 210 bhp and up to 800 Nm of torque at 2800 rpm. Power is transmitted to the road via a 6-speed overdrive Volvo I-Sync automated gearbox. As with the company’s other mixer trucks, the Volvo FL is equipped with a four-camera system for all-round visibility. It also features a nearside low kerb window.

“Because we generally work within a 35-mile radius of here, we cover pretty much the whole of London. As such, when specifying this truck we needed it to be Euro-6 compliant. This level of technology meant it was a natural choice to turn to Volvo, as I completely trust the trucks and the dealer support,” says Steve.

The Volvo FL – like the mixer trucks already run by the company – is on a Volvo Gold Repair and Maintenance contract. “The dealer support is second-to-none,” says Steve. “All compliance inspections are arranged, organised and carried out by Volvo, so there’s no headache. I simply get an email telling me what, where and when. And, because there’s round-the-clock service, looking after the trucks really doesn’t impact the business.”

Easymix Concrete was started by Steve Brown 11-years ago with one open back truck that required him to manually mix on site, the company now boasts 23 employees, 15 trucks and its batching plant in Croydon produces some 50,000 m3 of concrete per year.

“Developing the business has required the best products to enable us to do the best job,” says Steve. “I will go to market leaders such as Volvo because this gives me the confidence to concentrate on concrete and our customers.”

Just imagine you have a nice cab like that on your Mack.

It must be possible Volvo as well as Mack are owned by the Renault truck company, they delivered Macks whit a European cab in the early 80’s so why don’t they do it again
