That's assuming you are sure that it is not the mix design, that it is doing it with dif plants and material |

How do you wash out? I put a sponge in the hose, then fill the hopper with water and pump threw. If there's no sponge it'll plug for sure. |

No, its an S tube. I have never run a ball valve. I thought it was the same just take the hose off and put the sponge in. Also wash out the hopper, then pump clean water threw and your done. |

With my Olin ball valve I pump the hopper empty then pump water. Even if I am pumping back into the RM truck I just use water. Once water comes out of the end of the hose I will break the reducer at the pump and clean the pump out of the rocks. Put the reducer back on and stuff news paper into the line (2.5) and again pump until the paper comes out. The last few strokes will have pure sand and rocks but I have never had a problem. |

I do not make any mess in the street with my wash out. Wash the hopper down and pump water. When the water comes out of the hose there is mostly sand and rock left in the "Y". News paper then more water and the RM takes the paper with him. If anything is left after that put a 5 gallon bucket under the "Y" and rake it out. |

Hey you are wasting your time calling Olin, they very seldom will talk to anybody they even ask there dealer to fax them, I own a 5/45 start doing this on the wash start filling the hopper with water unhook you hose using a bucket pump out the mud tyhats left in the manifold , I better back up I have the 4 inch to 3 inch 90 then I have a short 3 inch to 2 1/2 inch reducer then a 2 1/2 inch 90 18 inch radius then my hose hooks to that then while filling the hopper I fill two 5 gallon buckets with left over mud then I take a wet wad of newpaper which is bio digradable put it in the out side of the 90, hook it back together then increase your stroke speed to double as fast as you were pumping, and if you are not washing out back in the ready mix truck take that dam hook off, a ball valve pump doesn't like to pump water so you may have to speed it up more, IF you do this like I said your problems are over, |

Trick, I just use cheap sponges large enough to fit snugly but not too tight.(cut up some old cushions) With my s tube mind you. When done pumping I run the pump empty, dump the hopper, take off the reducer, wash out the s tube and hopper, put the sponge in the reducer plunge it in (like loading a cannon), put the elbow and reducer back on. Then fill the hopper with water( takes about 35-40 gallons). Its important to put enough water in the first time so not to stop until the sponge is out of the hose. Pump it out and your done. Just roll up the hoses and your off.
The sponge keeps the water from segregating the mud. if I don't use it the water will come out the other end and leave all the rocks and sand. |

Chubby you are full of it,if you don't put something between the water and the mud it will lock you up in a flash, sponge is ok but wet newspaper is better cause if you don't pick it up it will break down very fast, here is another tip say you are pumping several loads and there is more than and 1/2 hour wait we will wash out then break down the hose and roll them to get all the excess water and material out cause on the restart that water and rock sand can cause a plug, on the last clean out pump out all the lower manifold put something something between the water and the mud and speed up your pump flow and wash out then break everything down and roll the hose to get all the gravel and sand out, something else we do is when setting up we roll the hose again that get stuff that dried while sitting , then we prewet the hose cause on the start up dry hose will consume water, I very seldom pump grout. |

The reason I suggested to call Dave is not to learn to clean out but to find out if the conversion of the pump is causing problems, once you change something that much you become a test pilot. It would be interesting to find out if any of his standard ball valves are in the same configuration.
Material is everything, I have pumped thousands of yards threw balls and swings and have never used a sponge just plain old h2o. |

OLIN makes the best ball valve on the market even Putz will tell you there are not as good as OLIN, but converting one from and s-tube and having 8 inch cylinders ,I believe a 585 has 7inch X 38 inch cylinders that maybe your problem, the reason I said what I did about OLIN in general is the fellow I purchased my pump from has a really tough time making parts orders from olin they want him to fax them all sometimes its best to talk when placing and order. |

I believe every pump has a sole of it's own. It could be the long stroke or speed. Might try to just pump your hopper empty then put your news paper or sponge in the reducer at the manifold and then start pumping water. The water cannot mix with the mud then.
Everyone I have ever used had it's own issues. Once you figure out how to caress the beast it is nice to pump. |

I got a question when they converted your s-tube to a ball valve did they change the HDY pump cause a normal Ball Valve pump pumps faster than a swing tube about twice as fast and s-tube strokes about 30 per min a ball valve will do about 1 stroke per second cause you have to stroke faster to pump water with a ball valve, that could be your problem. If it something else send me and E-mail and I can get you to someone that may can help. |
