SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - One man is hospitalized after hitting a power line with the boom on his cement truck.

It happened at 6115 Morningside Avenue in Sioux City.

Authorities say 30-year-old James Carroll was working with a cement pumping boom truck and when he turned his boom around to clean up he hit the wire.

A nearby homeowner says the boom truck almost exploded.

Authorities say bystanders and Woodbury County deputies performed C-P-R...the homeowner says that went on for 15 minutes.

Authorities say Carroll worked for Siouxland Concrete Pumping in Sioux City. He's currently at Mercy Medical Center.

The homeowner had lived in the house for just 3 weeks and was planning an expansion.

Does anyone have the statistics on power line hits in the past year, 5 years, 10 years? I have been called in to look at least 6 in the past 8 years. I can’t remember the story to all of them, however, folding up at the end of a job is the #1 story I remember hearing. It is sad to here accidents like this when it is 100% preventable. www.sigalarminc.com  this is a simple warning device and could have PREVENTED this accident from happening. Hang in there James Carroll.

Gonna shoot straight on this I am no trainee I am a 20 year vet with a unblemished safety record I have had my close calls,I am acpa certified and I have ran many of different type pumps small big linepumps, the post about doing the jobs for extra cash close to powerlines was actually a competitor and his trainee on jobs we recommended being linepumped, I have seen coworkers do the same thing it's very easy to get complacent when your "done" but as I and most have learned it's not over till you turn that key off at the end of the day, I as many will will be praying for James and his family.
