Downloading photos

I am trying to download some photos from an I-phone 5c into my profile without any success.  I am choosing the photo from the phone album and select the upload button. After a few seconds the page changes like it uploaded the pic, but there is no pic in my profile. I am doing something wrong, or am I missing a step? Thanks for any help
