Looks like a Chinese reducer. Bad material and poor heat treatment.

We have had several go the same way.

Had a couple of those too. Cheap stuff from some no-name company.

One split clean all the way, looking like a peeled banana skin, yellow as it was.  

Digger is right. Junk product.

Looks like a cast reducer. They wear well, but are unpredictable as to when they will shatter. I stopped using them years ago. Stick with a non cast product.

Remember the fake Putz back end elbow off the hopper. Stick to the name brands and a good supplier.It's not worth hurting someone for a few bucks.
