Hey Guys,

The funniest or least funniest thing that has happened to me depending on your point of view. IN 1989 2 months after I had been turned loose on my own, I was running a 31m Whiteman. I was pumping lightwieght on a second deck on a church in Temple Texas. Everything was going fine(except for typical problems with lightwieght concrete). I was up on the second deck with the remote. If you guys remeber those had long wires with a small box with toggle switches. I was walking towards one side of the mezzaneine deck when the box all of the sudden had no tension on it. The concrete was still being pumped during all this. I looked down and the pump was on fire and the wire to the remote had melted completly in two. Yet the pump was still pumping. I jumped from the second story deck onto inot the back of a dump truck and rolled out into a large mud bog then ran over and cut the engine to the pump just as the fire caused the pump kit to quit. Pretty scarey then. No one got hurt and fire was contained to the pump. I looked around for the ready mix driver he had run off to the contractor trailer without having stop his drum so about 4 yards of concrete was over the back end and on the ground to top it off. Fire caused by exposed wires in contact with oil on the deck. Strangest thing.

My favorite story.  Upon arriving for a job,  I quickly set up and began taking photos of the pump from various angles around the jobsite, when all of a sudden I heard someone yell, "hey M_____F____er no photos", I looked over and said, "okay, sorry".  I started to walk back toward the pump when the guy started quickly walking toward me.  I was putting the camera away and he proceded to get right into my face, pointing his finger just inches away from me and stated, "when I say something you OBEY...I am the boss on this job", I said, "okay, I got it", the guy kept it up and continued, "no pictures means no pictures", I again said again, "okay, sorry, I'll delete them and put it away".  Then again, he said, "I'm the general contractor and what I say goes, I'm the boss on this jobsite", I then thought to myself, wow what a jerk and I yelled back in my Marine Drill Instructor voice, "okay buddy, if you are the boss then this is how it's going to happen", "Either you leave or I leave the jobsite and not return today", "so, BOSS, make a decision, who leaves???, me or you".  The guy hesitated for a moment, and I repeated, "who leaves, me or you"?  The guy looked and me and mutter some expletives and turned around and left, and never returned.  After he was out of site his entire crew gave me a round of applause.  The crew bought me lunch and gave me all the cold soda's I could drink for the day.....

oh yes, and I still have the pictures, especially the one of his big fat butt walking away to his truck....

I have been a musician most of my life, between bands I was a roofer for 6 years, ran a Loader for a while. Now I have a limo company, however it is so slow now can't make a living. Contruction out here is about the last thing going good. So I have been pondering a pump, but i need to research.

In regards to the BOSS, sounds like a textbook case of little penis syndrom!

We had a new guy on for about three months, He could mow the lawn, sweep the floor and go get beer. They sent me out with him. At the end of the day if he could not go out on his own he was done. Three jobs and I pushed him all the way. 15 minutes to wash the pump( line machine) we got to go. On the last job it was all up to him. Everything was set and looked great. He starts priming out so I head out around back to see how it is going. When I turned the corner, the 2 " line is about 4 ' over the guys head, Portland cement is blasting like Old Faithful and Mike ( contractor ) was covered !! I lost it it was so funny, Run back to the pump the kid goes What's a matter and I told him it was not good. The job got done and at the end evan mike thought it was funny. What a great sport! I remember asking the guy that morning what are you going to do if this don't work out. He taught me why some people get left behind and some people are not made for pumping.

We actually did finish the placemenet. Lucky we had a backup pump onsite. Same kinda pump just a little older. But it finished the job no problem. A true Magiver moment.
