We are becoming an uninsurable industry, and this is how it will change, by regulation.

For the last 20 years, I’ve heard people say the Concrete Pumping industry is a lot like the Crane industry and we want to be more like the crane industry. Well, I believe that’s about to change.

Over the next 5 years, we’re going to see some major shifts in how our industry operates. Like it or not, here’s what I believe is coming:

  1. Support trucks will become the norm – rolling to jobsites with proper dunnage and site-prep equipment will be expected.
  2. Operators will need certification per boom size – just like crane operators.
  3. Site planning documentation will be mandatory – liability, safety, and risk assessment will all be part of the job.
  4. Maintenance systems will have to be put into place. – Regulatory framework, inspections, Maintenance Documentation and Record Keeping and Logs

These are the same steps the crane industry took—and it transformed their reputation, professionalism, and insurability.

If we want to be taken seriously and keep this industry insurable, we’ll need to raise our standards. Change is coming. Let’s be ready for it.
