just a few questions on your method on sucking back, how longs the rope, what grade is the ball (hard or soft), do you take the reducer off, how much water. thanks

I tried the rope and two ball method this morning.. Cut the rope off with the rock valve. For me two balls 6" soft-one 5" soft. With water 5 gallons or so. Problem is with schwing one ball ends up in the hopper.

I use two 5 inch soft sponges spaced 12 inches apart. linked using marine grade rope. I have tried all combos. 1 hard 1 soft/ 1 six inch 1 five inch ect... I find two 5 inch soft to work the best.  Very little water in front of the first sponge (unless it's an extra creamy mix), then completely fill the twelve inch area between the two sponges with water, and suck back slowly, I set my volume at 3/10 with the rpm at 4 bumps above idle.......

The 5 inch sponges generally will not get sucked through the S-tube... if you have a ball stopper you could use that for reassurance...

why go thru all this trouble when a go-devil passes so smooth and its cleans as a whistle , I know on the newer 4 1/2 inch inside diameter we use sponges but everything else we use go-devils works like a charm and there idiot proof , if it comes back its clean.

Have you ever had issues sucking back a go-devil in a boom that has a mix-n-match of old and new pipes/elbows? Would there be potential for it to get hung up on a ridge created by a new elbow feeding into a worn pipe? I have never used one before and am curious... second question, what is the cost for one?

I tried the rope and two ball method again today twice. This time it worked. One ball was however in the barrel but just didn't shift yet. Trick is to look for the water coming up in the hopper. Then stop asap.

I like to listen through the tip section elbow as the sponge goes back and stop the pump once I can hear an echo, then give the deck pipe a tap just to make certain. Sponges are usually sitting in the transition door when I bust the back end open. One helpful hint which learned the hard way, When washing out, I always open up the transition door first and check for sponges.. if they are not all the way back I can button it back together and pull the sponge the rest of the way back... If I dump the hopper first, then open the back end up and find the sponges are not there, I have to go to the trouble of filling it with water in order to pull the sponges back...
