Ok Bob has started us thinking about a Pumpers Pact. I think i like the idea and have decide to move this to the next level. Lets see if we can put something together that we can all agree on and than maybe i can make a patch or a something like that for those who agree to it. Kind of like a badge of honor. Well here is what we have so far and lets add to it and refine it.

I would like to propose that we here at ConcretePumping.Com make a list; not of resolutions but more of a pact. A list of things that, like the 17’ promise will make our industry safer. This pact will be our promise to each other that we will, no matter what, abide by our rules. This pact needs to be reasonable and thought out. If you all decide that an item should be included, then it will be.

My hope is that you all will sign-on and participate in the content as well as the compliance. This pact is for you and about you and my feeling is that the input should be from you.

The 2008 PUMPERS PACT will be something that we can do to benefit our entire industry.

OK, we need some ideas, some input, some help from those that know best how to make a job safe.

1. I will never send an operator to a pour without the proper training.

2. I will never set up closer to any bank or excavation than is alowable by the one-to-one rule.

3.  I will not talk on the cell phone while operating the boom.

4. I will keep my cool with the hose man.

5. I will Actually do a fluid levels check and do a walk around pump with a true vehicle inspection.

6.  I will always stand where I can see the boom in relationship to the power lines.

7. I will do my best to show up early to check out the job and set up safely.

8. What would Bob do.

I give my full support to any program that promotes pump safety! I do my best to operate within the guidelines of a safe operation! The reality of the pumping industry is. Sometimes we have to work outside the box. When working in such a situation. The operator ultamitly takes full responsibility! When asked to perform a procedure that may result in damaged equipment or possible death of personnel the answer has to be no! There is always a way to place the concrete safely! Banks, Insurance companies, The people who own the equipment, An operators lost wages! None of us can afford the risk of plain negligence!

Bob & Todd, I am in for sure ! Todd, Hey anytime you are up this way, I will give you the box, its never to late to learn. Make sure you bring some clean towels and a good carnuba wax too... LOL.! OE-CLEAN.

Everyone has brought up some great safety issues for the pact , great job ! Something that has come to my attention lately is the number of ready-mix drivers that sneak that little I-Pod music device in to their front pocket and run the ear piece up their shirt into the ears. Well I had a late start the other day, and I stopped by the gas station on the way to work to grab a soda. Next to the gas station they are putting up a new fast food joint. There was a Pump Operator there from a small  local company. Of course I drove by slow to take a peek. And to my suprise , wireless in hand , guy on the end of the hose, there the operator was ,standing on the outrigger with those white little cords going to his ears. If that wasnt enough ! he was movin to the music, that is just plain wrong !

Almost forgot , His hose man was holding a double ended 4" hose. A big no-no in my rule book. always use a rag. Even if you are hooked up to system , and then unhook to start using the boom. it only takes a few minutes to change it out, It could be someones life !

Todd

I would love to join the concrete pact, I agree with OE_3 sometimes you just want to ring the ready mix drivers neck, Some of them just don,t care or think they are better then everyone else. We need to get ready mix company on the same page as us.We should get with ACPA and get these ready mix drivers to a concret pumping safty class. So they know what the dangers and safety of a concrete  pump.
