the way i do it is 1st A fram boom. pump the mud in to the mixer make sure you pump the hopper all the down have the mixer back up to wash in to the hopper but make sure your auger is off when he is all done have him move forword about 20 to 30 feet . use his water and mine fill up hopper when full set stokelimter at normal 3 to5. and  rpm at half. pump it intill water is just above rock valve. do 3 to 4 hoppers at the last hopper when it pumps air hit it in rev and pull the hose out not all the way just enough to not to be in the drum your hopper will fill up with water once it fills up turn pump off  thats how i do it.

Hi John, probably just a glitch.Waterwash the same way you would a smaller pump.If you get air or hollow stroke you will have problems.I used to flat boom water wash 52's with zero problems. As said in "caddyshack",be the ball.

run your hopper down fill with water then take one stroke forward and refill. run just above normal pumping speed for 5 to 5.5 strokes throw it in reverse and volume up to full volume to pull back the rocks. i do it 100% of the time with no hassles.

I know that you water wash guys know what you are doing and have no, orlittle problems; for that I salute you. As for my old self..... water has always been more valuable to me than time. I suck 2 sponges with a couple of gal's of water between them wash out and know that tomorrow morning I will not have a problem. To each his own ;~)

My companys policy is suck a sponge back! ALWAYS! if you bucket wash, suck a sponge back! if you water wash, suck a sponge back. Or just suck a couple sponges with some water and be done with it. But it is nice to know you have some options, I dont think it is good to only know how to suck a sponge back bc sometimes that can be a pain in the @$$ bc of concrete falling.
