Tom,

I used to have a great 8x11 photo of that machine with the lead covering on the cab.  I looked for it and came up empty. It had a slit in the covering at the eye-level on the windshield. Oh well,.....................

I will never forget the day this happened... so sad to think of all those who have died...

Check out this link, at approximately the 3 minute mark there is some footage of the liquidaters working with concrete pumps visible in the background...

Bob,

What I meant by ""never forget was the lives that were lost during this tragic event. I couldn't agree with you more that we need to find alernative fuel sources and soon! How many of you remember the Washington Public Power Supply  (WPPS or woops as it was commonly refered to) How many nuclear power plants were they building at once during the 80's? I can't remember but there were alot! How many were completed and are on line now? ZERO! As a matter of fact, they imploded one of the cooling towers along the Columbia River a few years back.

If we are going to pursue nuclear energy in this country, we need to do it the right way, the safe way...

We'll pave the other planets later!

I have to say perhaps one of the most provocitive threads I can remember.I have to agree with Bob's thoughts that we need alternitive power stratigies. What are our options?.Nuclear power but with what cost?.

A very real problem and I'm certain we will play a major roll.

happy trails

In relation with the nuclear centralers, me estube one year being employed at one, (vandellos the IInd) on the Mediterranean coast, tarragona and there is insecure mas that you could imagine, a few days ago a nearby reactor pipe a problem (disgust I) and they minimized the problem that now we know that it(he,she) was mas seriously. I sit(feel) if the translation is not good
