I'm priming up 425' of 4" line coming off back of putz 32. Slickpack has not been working at all only been good for half distance . I'm thinking to try mixing bag of Portland in hopper sloppy wet pump couple strokes an than concrete . Anybody have any proven tactics?

Start with 10-20 gallons of water. Use the RM trucks water (or your own), and spray it in the first length of system. Then mix 1 bag of portland to pancake batter consistancy. Put about half the bag in one bucket, half in another bucket.

When the first truck gets there, give the portland a quick mix, then dump it into the hose. Or if he's already there you've probably already done this.

For Assurance, you can mix up 2 bags of portland (4 buckets). 1 bag should prime through 250 foot no problem. With the water ahead of it, it will go farther and will not dry pack

Prime slowly

Definitely atleast 2 bags of cement. Pump low stroke and about 1/4 rpm.

But if u can...order yard of grout!!! Don't b afraid to add 15-20gallons or more to get it right when u first look at it.

I make it a habit of always looking at mix and grout before its discharged into my hopper

The  rule of thumb is one sack portland for the boom, one sack for every 100' thereafter. In your case,4 sacks, aim chute to corner of hopper, reverse agitator until out end.

It all depends on how big the poor is. If it is a small poor go by the hours mix your own prime and let the contractor take the risk of losing time on getting blogged.

On a big poor I presume you will be paid by the yard. Don’t take any risk and let them order grout. Especially whit that distance.

Mixing 3 bags of cement is a good way! But 20 gallons of water ahead of that?? That will only destroi the cementmix.. I would prefer some water.. than a soft ball and than your mix with water cement.. At least 3 bags on 425'..

The ball will realy help! Just try it Wink

water wont destroy the cement. I primed over 2000 feet of 5 inch line before with 2 hoppers of water and 1 hopper of grout.

Water keeps the line wet, and allows the concrete to flow through

I always prime with water in front of grout, just not 2 hoppers.

yeah I usually don't do two hoppers of water but I usually don't pump through 2000+ feet lol

If you would put that amount of water ahead of the grout I would recomend a ball between the water and the grout. Than your safe Wink

Dont consider myself a pro by any means, but we always order a yard of grout for priming lines other than boom! Make super wet and follow with the concrete!  Works every time!
