WONDER WHY PUMPS AREN'T MADE AIR RIDE IN THE BACK. HAVE BEEN GIVIN THE STORY OF HOW SPRING RIDE IS SUPPOSED TO HELP SUPPORT THE PUMP IN THE EVENT OF AN OUTRIGGER PROBLEM. I THINK THAT #%&?. WE HAVE PLENTY OF BOOM TRUCKS ALL AIR RIDE, NO PROBLEMS.

THE BENEFITS OF AIR RIDE GO FAR BEYOND OPERATOR COMFORT. LESS SHOCK LOADING OF THE BOOM, INCREASED HOLDING VALVE LIFE.CONSTANT RIDE HEIGHT, AND BETTER OFF ROAD THAN THE SPRING RIDE SET-UPS WITH THE OVERSIZE BUMP STOPS.

I drove two that were all airbags no springs. Rode nice except when the wind blew and the truck would sway back and forth. 115,000 was to heavy in my opinion, as well as to top heavy. Can you get the airride on smaller pumps?

This topic was brought up a while back. There was one operator out of Canada that said he had run one (52m) with airide and was scary as heck.

Don't quote me,but recall 52m schwing with a tor chassis. If I remember right he said that combination was all over the road, hard to handle.

on the smaller machines, springs are on the outside of the chassis rails, air bags tend to be more central  and can be in the way when mounting when allowing for the cylinders to drop through the chassis, its easier to therefore use a spring ride chassis

Operated a 61 meter mounted on a TOR.  Biggest piece of shit I've ever driven.  All airbags on each axle, the chief engineer from schwing even came down for two weeks and could never fix it.  Would never recomend this set-up for any truck.

We also have a 58meter mounted on a tor, your right bigstick nothing but problems with airride and truck. TOTAL JUNK!!

Love my Mercedes Actros on springs. So much more stable and takes you places air would'nt dare to go.
Air is for trucks running mainly on flat, smooth tarmac IMO.

Early air rides were little understood and often poorly set up. It is vital to have ride height adjusted and set fore & aft as well as left to right.Tire pressure must be correct in ALL tires and checked routinely. Current air ride suspension offers many advantages for pumps and should be considered for any unit above 40 meters. Do not confuse old ones and lack of knowledge to current units. Again check and equalize tire pressure, it will surprise you.

had air on the rears of a mack 6 axle.  ripped them apart more then once.  air is made for roads, not off-roads (in my opinion)
