i want to know the right procedure for washing a pump using compressed air, here in company ive asked our pioneer operators what's the right way to do it but seems theyre in doubt use it also or maybe theyre never use this method eversince. someday ill use this method as my last option of cleaning.

i have a new refurbished pump and i have all the air washout kit, i know that this coulld be done with experienced operators who practice air washout but i must learn this is part of my job, if only my pump came brand new im sure representative from pump company will give me instructions.

i need youre instructions, comments, observations regarding air wash out and the possible dangers.

Air clean outs are as dangerous as it gets, do not do it unless you are trained on how to do it. A few post on this web site does not make you qualified to do a air clean out.

So guys let me hear some of your air clean out stories so this guy knows what i am talking about.

You need to first have the right gear which included a ball catcher and a blow out cap with a way to relieve the pressure. The next thing you need [2 people] that have at least an idea of how dangerous this is; and you need a plan that includes guaranteed communication between those two people. These are things that you cannot do without!

Other things that you will need will depend upon the site conditions:

1.     Are you blowing back into a ready-mix truck

2.   Are you in the wide open spaces

3.   Do you need to worry about the mess

4.   CAN YOU CONTROL THE SITE

5.    Is everyone aware of what you are going to do

6.   Have you properly communicated the danger to all your co-workers

A proper procedure would take me a couple of days to write. I remember seeing a video on air blow out, probably from the ACPA.

I hate to reinvent the wheel. If you are unable to get something you are satisfied with I will make something up for you. I would ask that you first check with the ACPA.

Let me know

Bob

Bob and I know an ex operator in Atlanta that was a great guy.One day blowing the placing boom and straight leg he had a tragic accident.I never heard the exact details of it,he substained brain damage when he released the blow out cap. That was say 20 years ago and he has never gotten better.

This was an experienced operator, just made a costly mistake one day.As I said

Experience is something you normally get right after you need it.......

Is there a reason why you can't suck a sponge? You only blow with air in emergacy.Try to do anything but do not use air,If you can help it.

thank you bob for that. appreciate it much, so risky. just watch the video(todd posted) of air wash out looks like so simple the only thing is i dont have the ball catcher, just noticed on the video they didnt lock the clamp. hopefully i will never have a problem with my refurbished pump.

ruck youre right, make a way to use a sponge, just thinking what if you have a serios problem with the truck/pump.

Your forgiven,it's all good.

Ya know when I first started running a pump I couldn't even spell it.On top of that the 1st whiteman trailer swing tube,I mean ser #1.I really did do it over the phone, perhaps lucky or some would say unlucky.

You guys and girls are the future of tomorrow,a new horizon of equipment and rules. If we could each help one person in our life wouldn't it be bliss.I finally found an old "driver skills evaluation" that went out daily when training (big) company. If I can remember I will mail to Bob.

I posted that video because they did about 8 things wrong. In other words these guys were not trained and they will end up hurting someone.

Did you count the fact that the airline did not have a whip-check?
