a 40m boom pump tipped over on Vancouver Island in BC yesterday. the operator was distracted by a conversation he was having with the contractor and started retracting his outriggers while the boom was still in the air. no joke. no one was injured but the pump is quite a mess.

Reminds me of a job I had quite some years ago. They managed to stress me so much that when I had to move the pump (32m schwing) half way the job I unpacked the boom without outriggers out :-o I actualy had it completely in the air and about 10 meters from the truck when I looked back and saw the truck in a 45* angel!! But it didn't tip!!! What ever happens now.. I never stress again. Let it all go to hell than but they won't get me crazy anymore!!

If someone barking orders like that, just tell them, If you open you mouth again, I'm going to put my dick in it. You get some funny results.

its called interfering while operating dangerous equipment and by all rights you should ask for their liability insurance. they are being paid to be responsible.

Sounds like another case of someone tat should not be in the buisness. Dont get me wrong we all get distracted, hot girl walks by or zoning off into another place besides work, but when your suckng in your legs and forget the boom is in the air. You not thinking of other peoples lifes and thats fucked up.

Yeah, an outfit outta edmonton tipped their 55 nose down last month. i ran into the placers & they said too small of pads, soft soil & no dunnage. The biggest thing with this type of crap happening is getting rushed or being lazy. Take your time to be safe & leave the laziness to the guys with the drums on their trucks

"Crap" like this also comes from getting out of ones routine and or being dead ass tired.

A long time ago I almost made the very same mistake on a 31m Schwing. Got out of my routine because washed up where I sat before I folded up the boom. Got both outriggers folded up on the pass. side before I realized the boom was srill in the freakin air!!!! (Like a DimbAss!)

Being deadog tired my have contributed too but it can/could happen to anyone on a bad day.

You're right. Its dangerous when you get to much routine and then suddenly do things a diferent way.

Too Tall is right......routine, routine, routine, routine. Start one that works for you and don't deviate, no matter what. Conversations can wait until you are all done.

Routine saves a lot of things like.....booms,system, lives ,remote controls, hammers, grease guns,   ....lives, lives,....lives, oh and did I mention, lives.
