When i talk witht pumpers in Sweden, they only nagg about their lousy work. I´m a linepumper and my workingday is realy tough while i´m pulling hoses through watery clay - you linepumpers know how it is.....But i´m proud of my work! But when i talk to all the boompumpers. They all see their work as a must - they don´t have a proud of their work. They only do it because of the payment. A Boompumper in Sweden earns about 30.000 kr/mounth (3750 USdollar/mounth) + 1 day of no full pay when the pumper get injurent or have a weekendhahgover for 14 days - the employer has to pay the employeds his payment - no mater what. That´s how the Swedish system works! But how do you do in the States to get that proudnes to your pumpers? In Sweden is a pumper, just a pumper because of the pay - he don´t care about nothing about him self - he don´t have a proudness of his work - it´s just a work and he´s only happy if a concretemole get crasched, so he - the concretepumper can ascape from the work earlyer than aspected. So how do you do in the States? You seems to have proudnes pumpers - did they growned up whith milk and bread and a dully father, to see the proudness to be a pumper? |

I forgot to tell that a Swedish pumper also get an compensation whith 50% for more than 8 hours work/day (100 % for night/weekendjob). And a fathers freetime, whith full payment for 6 mounth! And it´s not easy for a employer to pay full amount for 14 days to a amployee if he has a little bit of snore in his nose or have a hangover. The employer have to pay full amount to the employee anyway. |

I am not sure what your point is about getting paid to have a hangover and that stuff. But I take lots of pride in my job and what I do. For me, it is not about the paycheck as much as being happy. I recently moved to another company and the first thing I told the boss is that I do not care how much he pays. I jsut want to be happy. Happiness is worth much more than money. Anyways, I take a lot of pride in my job and that is what makes a great operator. From operating the boom, to customer interaction, and maintaining the pump. The people that are just in it for the money do not usually take care of the equipment. |

Are you sure it is like that with ALL the swedish pumpers or is it just in your company? Do you know all the pumpers in sweden? I know there are some that äre proud of their jobs.. My self I take a lot of pride in my work. Great feeling when a customer tels you after a job that he had expected it to be much more problem than it realy was and that he had sleepless nights for no reason at all. But I also think its very important to get payed propperly. Here is how I see it: An employee working for a boss is like trading.. You give him your time (lots of it!!) he can ''use'' your body, brains, efford etc.... and in return he gives you money and so on.. Why should he not pay a fair price? Giving your life for a boss day and night and not getting in return what you should earn and just watch your boss getting richer and richer is in my eyes a bit sad... (I've been there, regret it) |

i was truly a proud boom operator when i was operating, i loved driving down the road in a clean truck. always getting looks, getting asked questions about the pump, and getting compliments on cleanliness. by far the coolest job i have ever had but i had to hang it up to become my own boss as an electrician which is a great trade to be in and can be very rewarding to the mind in my opinion. |

Dipstick, Of course i don´t know every pumper in Sweden - and i do only mean thoose pumper that i speak to (and it´s many) and most of these pumpers works in the Stockholm area. And it´s not pumpers in my company, because we are a very small pumpcompany and i´m the companyowner and boss, and i pump all our boring-job so my employees knows that my workingday is muck worser than theirs. Thats why they never complain. I know them and they are proud to their job - otherwise my company can´t grow bigger. My point with this post is that i feel sad that there is so many pumpers (at least in Stockholmarea) which are a pumper, only for the good payment - but they don´t care about try to do the costum pleased - they only want the concretemole to get broken so they can end for the day earlyer and go home. They have no proud to their job. My opinion is - let someone who is interested to pump and do a good job, let him do the job instead. |

"I take a lot of pride in my job and that is what makes a great operator". Pink panther, You are so right! Sorry that pumpers from Stockholmarea don´t can see that reply, because it seems that it´s only me from Stockholm area that are engaged to watch this site. Strange because most of the pumpers in Sweden is located in the Stockholmarea. |

I have been pumping concrete since 1984, I started on a linepump, then moved to the booms, I take great pride in my work, not only trying to do a smoother job of booming than the one I just finished each and every time. I also like my rig clean; a clean rig is an efficient rig everything in its place and clean. I ran the same pump a 28m schwing for 18 years, now because I took care of it they bought me a new 38m z boom Putz. It looks almost the same today as it did in 07 when I got it. It is about the money too; I am expected to know what I am doing and how to do it the most safe and efficient way, so I expect to be paid for that knowledge and experience. I really cant think of a better way to make a living, every day is an adventure and that’s how a pumper has to look at it, you just never know whats going to happen in the next 5 minutes. Thanks for this site, this is the first time I have been here and it is very cool to see so many people enjoying doing the same thing I do. |
