PETERSON COLLECTS THIRD STRAIGHT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY

Scott Daloisio
PERRIS, Calif. (November 22) - Cathedral City, California's Art Peterson became the first ever three-time PASSCAR Champion when he sewed up the title in the Art's Concrete Pumping Extreme Late Models at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday nights. Not only did he become the first ever three-time PASSCAR champion, but he did it back-to back-to back. The former Off-Road racer won the track's last Extreme Truck Championship in 2005 and won the track's first Late Model title in 2006 and backed that up with another crown last night.

As usual Peterson made things stressful not only for himself but his fans on the last night of the year. His second qualifying lap saw his car go up in smoke in what looked to be a serious problem. Fortunately, he just pushed the gasket out of the oil filter. However, a broken j-bat in his heat race resulted in a nasty crash into the front straight crash wall that left the car to damaged to repair.

Peterson jumped into the #34 car of teammate Mark Anderson and was forced to start at the back of the main event. When the green flag flew, he had a 29-point lead over Marina Del Rey, California Harley Davidson dealer Bill Bartels. Bartels ran second in the early going while Peterson languished near the back of the pack before methodically working his way through the field to 12th. Bartels ended up fifth and that allowed Peterson to take the title by a mere 9-points. However, for Peterson, that is a huge margin. In 2006, he won by only 1 point!
