Lets try this again.  Don't post treads from my phone.

This hose must have been tired of placing conrete.  Rock chuck got stuck in the tip hose today and caused a bow out.  It was an older hose I had cut the end off of.  Been using it for almost a year now with maybe 3000 yards though it.  Lord knows how many before that.  3 guys were standing there when it blew.  No one was hurt, just covered in concrete.  It jamed and I had back it off and pushed forward a little to see where the clog was.  At that point it blew.  I made sure no one was hurt and grabed another hose and a chop saw.  Back up and running in 5 minutes.  It made a hell of a mess, but thats what the new guy is for.  HAHA

Why in the heck would you forward the pump to find where its clogged?  Sounds stupid and dangerous to me.

Why would you use an ages old 3'' hose as an endhose anyway? But sh't happens mate. As long as we learn from it right Wink

Using a 3'' endhose is dangerous anyway in my opinion but ok.. Lets not get that discusion again. But at least make sure its a propper one that can handle the pressure from the pump.

Good luck next time and happy no one got hurt!

That's a 2" hose I use for grout, which is slow and low pressure.  Why was I using it?  Because its better than putting it pump side and I change a cheap ass for a boss. Its all about the bottom line to him.  As to why I pushed it forward a bit, because that is what the guy that trained me taught me. Push it once slowly to see of it unclogs and if not the bit of hose before the clog should be hard and after will be soft. Do it all the time and have not had a problem. I have one older section of hose left, which is now my tip hose. Its in much better shape than the old one though. All my 3" is new and very well taken care of. It is even stored inside when not in use.

I also sometimes push a bit to see where the plugg is so that I understand. Make sure people take distance when you do it.

But you shouldn't use a rubbish endhose even if just hanging from the tip.. Think if it pluggs when pumping and it explodes right in someones face!! If he is lucky he will only be blind Yell End hose should be a completely up to date and good hose.

But I know the struggle with bosses that want to safe some bucks on expence of peoples safety. Good luck with your fight Wink

I've never seen or had this happen to me before with a tail hose but I have seen a 5-4 self reducing hose (fairly new, maybe 500m3 through) blow because a chunk of pre cast got jammed and the operator didn't shut the pump down quick enough. I've also seen a fairly new 20ft 3.5in hose rupture in the center because the guy who used it last never clean it out the when the next operator went to prime through she blew.

The rock looked like a 57 stone.  How the hell it made it that far, I don't know.  I think your right, its nylon.  I know all of my new stuff is steel.  Things happen, life goes on
