Blue Go-Devil ??

Anybody ever use the blue go-devils? We normally use a square sponge with a ball or just some piece of sponge laying around the shop. I called about a go-devil today and they are going to send one out for us to try and if we like it, we buy it. I'm one that likes to try new things from time to time, so I thought I would give the go-devil a try. They act like these things are the best things ever, of course any salesman will tell you what you want to hear. I would think if it cleans the pipe as well as they act like it does, it would really reduce the risk of clogging on prime and reduce line pressure overall. Your opinions?? I run a 38Z and have always been one to arch the pump while pouring, but lately have been trying to Z the boom while pouring. I've been running the pump for close to 8 years and have never been a fan of Z'ing, only when I have to, or know I have to move several times so I can fold up quicker. Well, besides all this jibber jabber, I'm ready for the World Of Concrete.

we keep the blue go devils on our pumps when the mix wont suck back. they do work really awesone but require a bow out cap and air to pull it bak

we use blue go devils all the time very rarely do we need air , but if you have been using a sponge and there is any build up in 90s or pipe it is not going to come back, sometimes not even with air, when this happens we just push it back out with water and pump it forward thru the boom with water. In my experiences they work great when used from the beginning of a pumps life or new pipeline, and it definitely will keep it clean, no need to worry about build up if it comes back pipeline is clean.

Putzman,

Did you break the window out on the ending of a bad week or was that just the start of a bad week. I've heard good and bad things about these go-devils, guess I'll just have to try on out myself. Thanks for the advice though.

I just used one today at the cobo hall job in detroit. Blew out 200 feet of line into a dumpster . I used a catcher so mine didn't make the 150 foot mark. Hard ball to suck back the boom. Saturday it is 400 feet and the blue Go-Devil will again come to a sudden stop.

if your blowing anything to the hopper that has a hopper cover, and you are listening to the machine, you will know when the ball is back. I dont understand how you shot it 150 meters unless you were blowing it the wrong way, or didnt control the air pressure?

Not trying to rag on you just dont understand how that happened to you. makes sense about the pipe line. When I pull the sponge back, I pull it back with the volume and throttle all the way down as far as they will go. The only time i have problems is if the mix isn't pumpable or not mixed correctly.

We use only the blue go devils to clean out our booms. Only rarely do we need to use air to get it back unless you have the boom in a Z. I've found if you cut the first rib off it goes through the elbows better and seldom gets stuck and still cleans the pipe as well as ever.

If you have any build-up in the pipe it will get stuck. If there is any doubt after using a sponge it might be worthwhile to pull the elbows off and make sure they're clean before using the go devil.

I've water washed a few times before, but have had rocks left in the boom before. Not a real big fan of water washing anymore.

Moatsie the one thing I've learned on this site is you can only help a few of them because they have had a bad experience or someone told them they would, thats why I dont push water washing anymore.

We have 8 boom pumps & use the blue go devil on all of them. There is a few tricks of course. Before sucking it back recirculate & get the mud wet. Yes if you have any build up it will get stuck. Cutting the end off makes it come through nineties easier but really no need too. I run a 52m & use air every time. Set volume control low & plug up air. That way you don't cut the go devil. When you have air bubbles in hopper it's back. Plus you can tap pipe while sucking to hear it. Cleans the pipe very good with no worries. We love them.
