when you are shortrigging like that do just set your workside level or do you preload that workside a little extra? thats gotta be pretty ''puckering'' |

"VERBODEN TOEGANG!!!" I believe I will add this to the gate of my drive-way, directly above the "Prosicuters Will Be Violated" sign! yes I typed this correctly. Violators have little chance to be prosicuted and prosicuters are even less welcome! Ha,ha... Kris, I am glad to see a "Safety Bob" in your area, I was beginning to wonder? Ha,ha... We should all have a little "safety Bob" on our shoulder to reason with who ever's on the other one. All of us have taken advice from the wrong shoulder at one time or another?... Pump-On & "Verboden Toegang!" |

Too Tall, I've once seen a sign that said: NO TRESHPASSING TRESHPASSERS WILL BE SHOT SURVIVORS WILL BE SHOT AGAIN It wasn't your driveway, was it? |

Wizard, What do you mean with "preload"? What's the meaning of "puckering" ( my understanding of the English language isn't perfect) ? |
||
Bob | 11-26-2008 | reply profile send pm notify |
It is my sign. So far no one has required the second shot. Good USMC training. |

Bob, I think that what you do to improve the safety in concrete pumping is great. Too many people involved with concrete pumps have been injured or even killed. Often it's due to lack of knowledge but also lots of accidents occur with experienced people. It' s good to draw the attention to possible hazards, to train and inform new operators well and to keep the experienced ones alert. I'd like to put a link on my site to your site Bob. Is this ok with you? I think it may improve safety on European jobsites and be of great value for everyone involved in concrete pumps. Greetings, Kris |

Kris, I think Wizard was wondering if you set the pump up a bit higher to the working side so it ends up level once the boom is unfolded. I dont believe short-rigging is required as much in Alaska since its considerably less congested and populated? |

"Puckering"... is what happens to ones rectum during a bad set-up or situation. This usually happens just before someone $hits them selves or is trying very hard not to... |

Indeed, I think there is a little more space in Alaska then there is in Belgium. The picture below was taken yesterday in Leuven (the city of the beer STELLA ARTOIS) The streets are very narrow since they originated in the middle ages. Setting up a pump here often is a problem. |

TooTall re-worded my question, and explained it PERFECTLY. As a company policy we are NEVER allowed to shortrigg, which doesn't hurt my feelings at all, and we have a new 47m with OSS and am sure that feature will never be used. So every picture of a pump shortrigged i see on this board, I just kinda pucker up a bit. |

TooTall | 11-26-2008 | reply profile send pm notify |
Hey Wizard, regardless of what you see people doing here on this site and else where. Always follow company policy! Even if you've seen it done and was told it was safe. Always follow policy, they pay your pay check=follow their rules. I'm sure you know this I just dont like anyone in hot water. TT |

I guess I am guilty of shortrigging from time to time. But sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to get the job done. |

thewizard your company has a 47 with OSS and you dont shortrigg ? Why ? It wont fell ower , I promise you that ! They have tested it so much so if you use OSS you is safe.... It cost much OSS and not in use.... |

I don´t understand whats the problem is with short-rigging a pump ? Specially when it has some kind of safety system... And it seems to be a bigger issue in USA than Europe , why ? |
||
Bob | 11-27-2008 | reply profile send pm notify |
In the EU you have more stuff on less space. Here, US we have less stuff and more space. Most of the 'city' pumpers short rigg every day........ no big deal. There are areas of the country where a guy might pump FOREVER and never need to short rigg. Lots of companies have a company policy "NO SHORTRIGGING" because they don't HAVE TO. It isn't a big deal really, just a matter of choice. As far as I am concerned the OSS system is a very safe system, but since a guy works for a no short rigg company he might not ever use it. ;~) |
