Find a good price on the internet for an AC/DC magnetic particle kit, get the solution, get your license, and do it.

I already know about how to find cracks , pin to bushing clearance , visual inspection. My question is the  license .

I guess if it were me,contacting the manufacturer would be my first choice. One also needs to pass there welding test as well.

so contact schwing on the boom inspector class, and become a certified welder.

Dealers just deal (ironic hey). They will of course work on the equipment and sell you parts but that's the end of the line. One needs to contact the factory (white bear) and schedual inspections.Once your in the system they may notify you. There inspectors go out on road trips all the time, each does an area of the states.

As for the welding part, schwing has there own test to be factory authorized. It's not an easy test from what i'm told. There field personel can do it all and good people, factory runs there buns off when busy.

Putz has a good class as well.  Check out here:  http://www.putzmeister.com/support/schools/index.cfm

There's no boom inspection courses schduled right now, but check back or call them to see when it is.

Schwing... Heck I'd go for both classes? You may also want to dig up some info on cranes as well? Knowing every aspect of 'overhead' equipment inspection, certification etc. sure wouldn't hurt business any. In fact it may even attract other customers besides concrete pumpers?

Hello dlee7729 , I have been a boom inspector for 7+ years now . I was exclusively employed by Schwing America until this past May when I resigned and went Independent and started my own boom inspection company with Scwhings blessing of course, CBI or Certified Boom Inspection. You can view my website www.cbinspection.com for more info ==================================================================================================== Here are just some of the requirements to become an independent boom inspector for Schwing, ==================================================================================================== #1,must be a CWI certified weld inspector thru the AWS american welding society cost between 2&5 grand depending how many times you have to take the test. ==================================================================================================== #2,must pass an extremely difficult weld test cost between 1500 and 5000 depending also on how many times you take it and your travel costs. ==================================================================================================== #3, you must train with a certified boom inspector for 120 hours and or take there 5 day course if it is still offered. and you pay for the costs. ==================================================================================================== #4,must carry several million dollar contractor insurance cost is dependent on carrier ==================================================================================================== The above requirements are for Schwing Certified boom inspectors only. ==================================================================================================== For Putz you will need to take there week long course and weld test which is also very difficult Im not sure of the costs . ==================================================================================================== As far as I know , no other pump manufactures have as stringent requirements for boom Inspectors,Schwing is by far the hardest and most expensive certification with Putz being the next hardest. ==================================================================================================== If you are not a very good welder you may want to pass on this challenge , but there are companies I know that just offer boom inspections with out welding repairs, but you would loose alot of potential customers by not being able to repair there welding cracks . ==================================================================================================== Here are the contacts you will need to call to get started with this potential new job. ==================================================================================================== Schwing contact: Jim Mielke (651)-429-0999 Putzmeister contact: Don Geroue (262)-884-8977 ==================================================================================================== Good luck to you and I hope this helps you make your choice more clear ?
