In the days before nextel's & cell phones, when Thomsens & Elbas & Titans roamed the plains. We'd had just TOO much of our dispatcher and decided to have a little fun! With the old radios that bounced signals off mountain relay site's we could go to chanel 3 and talk truck to truck w/out the dispactcher hear'n a word. We called this "Charly in the dark". One slower fall day, 4 or 5 pumps went out to cover 8 or 9 jobs, a few of us copied all the address's for the day then went to "code 3" truck to truck and dispatched ourselves. I was one of the first to return to the yard around 2:00 to see a dust cloud and our dispatcher ripp'n out a the yard with his longest finger raised high in the sky. Charly in the dark! being the linepumper I cought the brunt of his wrath the following days but is was so worth it !! pumpon! |

when you are the only 61, you call the shots within reason of course. |

I would never mess with the dispatcher. They can sit your butt at home or they can make your bills. If they want you to run a line pump in the afternoon you do it. |
