Ok, you had an older diesel powered trailer pump, last year you paid out $ thousands to fit a new diesel to comply with CARB laws.

How do you feel now ...... that the sole person, whos research was responsible for the whole scam was in fact an academic fraud, his name Hein T. Tran obtained his academic diplomas via the internet for $ 1,000.00.

I know that I would be pissed off and seeking legal redress.

Thornhill University: Where the air board’s diesel expert got his (fake) Ph.D.

The California Air Resources Board has yet to honor my request to see the 38 exhibits in the Hien T. Tran academic fraud case. Tran was the lead researcher on a scientific study that was used to justify sweeping, costly new diesel emission rules proposed by the CARB staff. He admitted Dec. 10 to CARB that he lied about having a Ph.D. in statistics from UC Davis. Instead, Tran said, his Ph.D. was from “Thornhill University.” Nevertheless, the air board still voted unanimously to adopt the rules based on his research Dec. 12 — without acknowledging Tran’s deception.

How impressive — the $1,000 got him a “magna cum laude” plaudit from Thornhill University, not just a diploma.

The CARB rules that came about due to Mr Tran's lies regarding his credentials have largely been put on hold. Mr. Tran has been fired and possibly faces state charges. Really don't know why anyone in OZ would care. CARB can be a pain in the A$$ sometimes, and there was an internal scandal over this issue. But if you grew up in the LA basin, there's no denying the air is cleaner now than 40 yrs ago in spite of increased population, industry, truck traffic, concrete pumps and private vehicle mileage. Here is an UNBIASED webpage showing the state's action against Mr Tran. http://static.tbc.zope.net/newsroom/pdfs/aircreds.pdf

Why would anyone in Australia care about CARB?

For one thing, what happens in California, good or bad, will come down here.

Secondly, as joint owners of Transcrete America Inc, we have hundreds of pumpers with our gear that were forced to re-power their pumps, some less than 5 years old.

Was he fired? I read he was suspended for 60 days then demoted. I think he still works there even though board members were calling for his head. I hope I'm wrong. He should be gone.
