Certification Exam Available for Concrete Pump Operators on December 12, 2016

The first ever provincial Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) exam for the Concrete Pump Operator trade (637C) will be available December 12, 2016. This will be the first time a provincial Certificate of Qualification is available in Ontario for this trade.

Anyone wishing to obtain a C of Q in this trade, including individuals with an approved Trade Equivalency Assessment application, on or after December 12, 2016 will be required to successfully pass the exam and meet all membership fee requirements to be registered in the College’s Journeypersons Class and be issued a C of Q.

Effectively immediately, and prior to the release of the provincial Certificate of Qualification exam, the following opportunities are available:

• Holders of a Certificate of Apprenticeship (C of A) issued by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (formally the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities) in the Concrete Pump Operator trade on or before December 11, 2016 can apply to become a member of the College’s Journeypersons Class and be issued a C of Q without passing the C of Q exam.
• Individuals who are approved through the College’s Trade Equivalency Assessment on or before December 11, 2016 can apply to become a member of the College’s Journeypersons Class and be issued a provincial C of Q without passing the C of Q exam. To be eligible for the Trade Equivalency Assessment, 2,159 applicable trade hours are required.

Once the exam is implemented, apprentices will be required to pass the exam in order to be eligible to receive the Apprenticeship Completion Bonus in non-Red Seal trades.

The introduction of the C of Q exam does not impact the voluntary status of the Concrete Pump Operator trade; holding and maintaining a valid C of Q remains voluntary for this trade.
