Change in thought process

In the past I have made my opinions clear about people within our industry that have seen fit to take a side other than the pumper in a legal action. I thought that this was wrong and I opposed it. I have had a change of heart in this matter and think it only fair to say so.

Personal responsibility is the only way that we as an industry will ever get the respect that we all seek. The longer that we as an industry and more specifically I as an individual self protect or shield what is clearly out of compliance behavior the longer we as concrete pumpers will not receive that respect. What I had considered traitorous behavior on the part of others was actually clearer forethought.   ;~)

I have always enjoyed loyalty. Loyalty to a person to an industry to a country.

But I don’t think anyone should allow loyalty to a be an excuse to do something that is wrong. Loyalty with out character or responsibility is called an accomplice.

Here is what I like about you Bob, you say it like it is, the truth straight up. I know you have tried to temper yourself with me from time to time and have failed miserably and that makes you one of my best friends.

i would have to strongly disagree.  Some people are only in it for the money.  if it is something that you believe the operator, and or company did someone wrong then i would agree with you. thank god.  but i have had 2 cases against my company where we were not at fault and an expert witness tried to come in and blame us.  thank god for good lawyers.  they proved him wrong.  he did things that were un ethicle (spelled wrong) and came out in court

Splash,

I think that you were 100% correct that some people will try and make you look wrong whenever it is to their financial benefit.

I have turned down work where an attorney wanted me to make a call against a pumper that was, in my opinion, close to the line, but not wrong.

Now if you are out there with little or no dunnage................. EVERYONE knows how I think about that!!! ;~)

When you start saying things like, "My country right or wrong" or, "My company right or wrong" one becomes no different than Nazi Germany during WW2.  It might be safer to say this is a great company or country but has it's share of problems like any other or I have never agreed with every policy put in place but it is still a great place to live or work.

One could argue that you are taking the middle ground when in fact you are intelligent enough to think for yourself without accepting every decision handed down without any thought.

If you are lazy and wrong for how you set your pump up and it tips over and hurts someone then stand up and be a man and take responsibility for your actions.  No one ever learns from their mistakes when they cast blame on someone else.

Bob-You just hit another home run!  Integrity in ANY business will always shine when the "others" decide that it might not be "profitable" in a particular situation. Convictions are NOT negotiable.  That's the difference between a preference and a conviction-Stick to it! And by the way if you are having a lapse and considering owning a shrimp boat again let me know (sic) I'm landlocked in Kansas-John

Maybe I am simple minded but please correct me if I am off base.

Our work laws probably much like your just plainly state operator is the final responsability. period. Now If I do not show him what is right or wrong I am the next in line. After he gets blaimed. If say this operator had a mentality of a 10 year old and had a license and could run a machine, he would still get blamed, and I trainned him for 5months. Heavin forbid but this seems clear  cut up hear.

I am constantly running around putting out fires, I am fighting this blame thing with customers that want free service, just the nature of the industry here. My satisfaction of my job is catching some shmuck in a lie with blaming our operators, love the recorded orders, they have saved thousands in the first week.

Example: A workplace officer came onsite and asked our operator (very young) what his save approach to that power wire was, he responded wrong, and was working inside that aproach, but legaly was safe. So the officer could have fined him, for not knowing or working inside the zone he stated, that one scared me. I was onsite and  asked why would he say that when I scoped this site and told him the amount of power the lines had and gave him a zone. Just nerves. But not knowing is big. My other thing is what next we have the power company explian the distances and how to read the power lines, it should be second nature. Another is sticker memos and laminated sheets showing this. How much more trainning on one subject can a human take before they shut it out, maybe we are boreing them to death. Maybe we need the knife in the light socket trainning. Maybe some of them need follow up trainning. I know when I am on site they either get nervous or settle down and smooth out, weird. Sorry for the large post.

But it may get some good and bad response also.I am ready.

NO MORE BOATS

The work is too hard and the $$$ is too little. Many shrimpers have started 'farming' the shrimp. It seems to pay better than netting them. ;~)
