Hello Our pump is due for some maintenance, hit 1000 hours yesterday and planning to change all our wear parts. To date, it hasnt given us problems, knock on wood. Lately i have noticed a little bit of water leaking, but it wasnt enough to be a problem. I had a tech around and he looked into it, and it needs to be welded/replaced. It seems to be cracked or rotted, but we wont know where or how bad until it is off the truck during the holidays. Its a PTO model, so the watertank is bolted onto the truck, but i dont find it normal for it to be rotted already with under 3 years. The cherry on the cake is that it costs 2200$ plus 8 hours to replace! |

we have a VS50 and VS70 (both PTO driven). The water tanks on both began to leak due to cracking after 3-4 years. Both were repairable with a welder. |

No chemicals were ever added to the tanks, we are owner and operators and try to take care of it as best as possible. After looking at diagrams, both the water tank and hydraylic oil tank are sitting on top of eachother and are both metal, and water can easily works its way between there, not very smart in my opinion. Welding is an option, but we scheduled a week of downtime right after the holidays. I wouldnt want the tech to unbolt the tank and tell me the tank is not salveable or the welds will only be a temporary fix and then have to order it from Putz, and lose more time and money getting it fixed. |

Sounds quite rediculous to me. If this is true Putz should recall all these pumps and give them a propper tank. What if you change it now? You need to change it again in 2,5 years?? I've seen 30 year old pumps still driving around with the original water tank.. |

putz did replace two tanks on 06 38m pumps within a year but there was a mounting problem that caused the cracking on the z booms |

How about some of that epoxy-plastic-stuff that is used to seal gastanks? Since it is water and non-pressurized it will be fine. |

Hi there Im a new member and saw this port and figured I would offer up some help. I work for a pumping company out of Nc and we've had a similar problem recently with our 2007 putz 36m. Its water tank was leaking badly near the bottom from rust. Not wanting to spend the 2200 for a new tank. Tried jb weld and water weld neither worked permanently. Finally took the inspection plates off and dried the entire tank with a shop vac reversed. Took only a few hours to dry. Bought a quart of por15 rust treatment and brushed the entire inside of the tank with it. Multiple coats later and only 40 dollars invested it sealed up perfectly. Every crack and rust spot. Hasn't leaked a drop since. |
