i was spending more time cleaning than pumping yea you do not want it to get out of hand but putting acid on it sucks and scaping whars down the paint that i would like it to be there for a reason, my stuff looks good and appears to be a work tool. besides when it gets repoed thy do not care what it looks like ha ha

eugene< what about you where you pumping from? what pump do you run?

Id have to say a clean pump is a better one. Main reason for that it puts the customer in a better mood from the get go. He dosen't look at the pump and say what problems can we expect today. Secondly If there is a problem that arises on the job the first and only one he is going to look to blame is the pump.

clean pump, immaculate I'll take pics of a fleet of pumps going on 5 years old and 4 out the 5 is like brand new with the other needing just a few hours and you would swear they was all within 6 months old, it is one of my requirements to run one of these machines,it will be washed daily if the hopper isnt spitshined thats fine but there will be no buildup in it and the truck will be washed daily if not your gone,I have no tolerance for lazy or filthyness , what you do with your personal possessions is your business, but with these pumps they will be clean or you will be employed elsewhere, I have seen some of the most talented operators be the filthiest they cant work here, we want the total package professional, safe, clean, thats just the way we roll.

smart pudq... i take pride in my rig.. although its very trying at times being i run a 61 meter with a different guy everytime.. so it comes down to bein a babysitter. but all in all it works out i just have to take care of my 14 wheels myself and thats the hard part

JUST FOR THE RECORD!!!!> MY first responce was SARCASM.. I really said that because I think pretty much every one that get on here takes pride in there job and all generaly try and present themselves as a professional and a ragged truck does not say much for the operorator...My trucks always look nice I mostly get hand me downs from guys that dont take as good of care of them as I think they should so I have to work at it to get them cleaned back up!!!

Well for me it is a clean pump I hate it when the pumps I operate look like s...... it says alot about a person and the company you pump for and I have to say the cleanest pump I have ever seen was OE3`S. He has not been on here a for while to bad really. The other thing with having a clean pump means you are actually looking at it more closely so if something goes wrong with it you don`t have to guess is that a old leak or a new one.....lol I have seen some pumps that look like that they were in a war and lost....lol

I know if I hired a pump and it showed up looking like crap and was covered in duct tape and zip ties holding everything together I would be wondering if the pump will survive the day of pumping.

I'll lose sleep over dirty iron! There was a time when I did'nt take any vacation time for a couple years because I knew damn well someone was gonna trash my pump. But that's back when I was given 3 brand new pumps in a row and every single spec of concrete either was or wasn't from me. Now days I'm back to running pumps that others have trashed over the years but I bring'em back into shape, one square foot at a time. I miss my brand new/parade ready pumps but it's nice not losing sleep and taking vacation again!

Hey here's another tip. When the paint begins to lack luster a really quick & easy way to shine'em back up is a quick wipe down with "Mop & Glow"! Waaay faster than polish and you'll even be able to see your reflection again! Check it out, this is a pic of a 2001 thirty six Concord that was a mess when I got here. Notice the shine? Mop & Glow!

The cleaner the better. I really dread climbing in some of the cat boxes we have. I'm borderline OCD, and i'm on vacation right now. It sucks having cleaned one up to watch it get pigged out so quickly. These are the same guys who whine because they don't get new pumps.

The worst part about a filthy pump, besides looking like a bum, is when there are problems it makes them 3 times worse. 3 times longer to fix plus you look like a grease ball when your done. With the right tools and parts a clean & organized machine can be back to pumping 3 times faster than the pig pen!

a pump can always be brought back to life.  will lose some paint in the process but it will be clean.

hopper and rims - backset

truck, pump kit, water box, spong bucket, hand wash - liquid sunlight dish soap

boom - degreaser and sunlight

those Concord booms do shine when clean eh TT

dawn works great to and ya it must be a so cal thing then cause thats how i learned to your pump is spotless or you dont work and its always a nice feeling to pull up to a job and the contractor is like ya thats my pump and then they complament you on how clean your rig is or if you pull in to get drinks in the am and your rims are shinning at 530 in the am and its still pitch black out always a good feeling i think

Rat, what does that mean you have a different person all the time? Do you work for someone that actually puts a second person on with a 61? Id like to try that one day. When you are alone on a big pump you learn cleaner the better, tarps help alot if your company will buy you some. I had to get my own. Makes it so much nicer to work on if its clean to begain with

the other week on a friday, made the crews life easy.  wasnt bad until the third setup.  im down low and being rain on with mud.  bring the boom down and it covered.  after some profanity over the radio,  hoppers already f*(ked,  it wasn't so easy hooking up the hose.

friday evening hammering the hopper

4 hrs to get most of the concrete off  the next week

takin a hose farther than the truck, pullin line, emptying hoses, not for that forman and crew.

When I worked for Merli San Diego I saw some of the cleanest concrete pumps I have ever seen in my life.yes step brother they sent a second man out with the big booms. As for tarps that was a requirement and they supplied you with them whenever you needed them. If you didn't keep a clean truck you didn't get any hours. All cleaning supplies were available at all times and all trucks went thru a complete detail from tip to ass end and undercarraige during every service. That was definitely the highest class company I have ever worked for!

I think that is where OE3 worked too. His pump looked better than brand new. Must be nice to have help never been that lucky. Cleaning supplys you dont have to buy thats good stuff. Havent heard anything from oe3 in a while hope he is doing well. He always had lots of pics to show.

Its like church around here. The ones you like dont stick around to long
