concrete pump accident

I have been pumping concrete for about 5 years. I had hoped one day to own my own business. Last year, under the employment of someone else, I was seriously injured by the hose. There was a plug in the hose. I reversed the pressure on the pump, found the plug, beat it out with a sledge hammer until concrete started to flow. I restarted the pump and there was another plug behind the first one. In a split second, the hose kicked up and hit me in the face, breaking all of the b*n*s on the right side. I have sustained life long injuries and nerve damage. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever heard of this happening. I have had to stop pumping because of these injuries. Any reply would be greatly appreciated.S.This message was edited by Todd on 9-19-05 @ 1:20 PM

I am really sorry this happened to you. I have seen hoses dance all over the place, I wish you the best, hope you get better. anmtcalf is a bit caulis, no doubt he has been hit in the face a couple times broke all the b*n*s in his face and is still pumping concrete, that is the only way that I can see that he could make such a statement. This message was edited by Todd on 9-19-05 @ 1:20 PM

I HAD to stop working due to the fact that I CANT see out of my right eye because of the nerve damage. I cant relay to you the extent of my injuries.

I just called Todd on the phone and he tells me that the operator runs the hose in CA. That is really STUPID!!! The rest of the free world has the operator operate. If that is the case no wonder you were hurt; you are one guy doing two jobs. How can you concentrate on doing a good job running the pump if you are draging the hose? We do not let our operators drag hose. An operator is just that. He should get involved with breaking back and hooking up. Stop dragging hose!!! :8o:

I am sure that it was compressed air that was expeled, snaping the hose into your face. The ACPA has a very good peice of information on hose whipping. You need to call them (better late than never)ACPA 1-614-431-5618nice people dedicated to safety.

Tough breakk man. Was it a metal end on the hose or a whip hose? From what you are saying it sounds liek the metal end hit you. Sorry to hear.

Also, what size hose, and how were you holding it? Any details are greatly appreciated for the benefit of others. Thanks for the post!
