It´s allways a good idea to look in the mirror when reversing the pump - Bad day at the work. I know a guy who did the same thing to a resthut on a buildingplace. The boom were craching through the hutwall when he were reversing his pump, and the guys who were inside the hut - playing cards - were shiting in their pants when tables and chairs suddenly pushing around by the big boom. Unbelievable that no one get hurt. It look like a mess inside the hut, and the big hole in the wall.... |

Dont call the boss, dont call the contractor, dont call the owner of the pump. Call your wife and tell her to pick you up at the nearest tavern. Just walk away, because no matter how good of a bullshitter you are, you ain't talking your way out of this one. |

The Pump and the ''train'' was in Holland. 1 trainpassenger died.. The driver of the pump got as penalty 80 hours comunity service.. (changing dypers of very old people) They didn't even take his license.. He also had a codriver with him that didn't even bother to get out and see if the road was free.. He got 60 hours comunity service... |

" They didn't even take his license..." What punishment should that operator have ?
An eye for an eye ?
Have all that has wrote something in this topic operate an 42/43 4stageboom with that overhang ?
I dont think that operator feel so good after one person died .
If some one here has operate an 42 43 m more than 5 year without hiting something with the boom in the cradle when You going in the buildingplace or out , turnaround for cleaning i Will buy You a beer or more . |

Vasa.. Tell that to the parrents of the 17 year old boy that died and the 13 other passengers that where injured.. If you make a disaster like this while you even have a co driver I think you should be punnished yes.. Thats just so much lazyness and not caring... You should at least not be on a big machine like that ever again. I drove a 42 schwing for a year and a 52 for 1 year.. Now I drive a 40 for about 3 years now.. I never hit anything serious.. (You owe me a beer ;-) But I don't see it as ''luck'' that I never hurt anyone.. If I would doubt that I could handle it I would get off that machine..And I don't even have a co driver.. Ok.. I agree that the driver is punnished already by having to live with this but believe me.. I know drivers that wouldn't give as much as we would expect.... If this would happen in Norway you would loose your license for several years and do some jail time aswell... |

I am a Man enough to tell what I have done but in that case it is little late .
But when I cut the leg of the hoseman when I tipped My pump I was home to his wife and 2 daughters and telled what happened . I had done it if I had killed Him to.....We had 0.5" on our side...
And before all why is coming ,I was acquitted on all counts by the Police , Prosecutor and OSHA .
I can get the nr of that investigation , so You can order it and read it . It's a public document .
"I never hit something serious" What do you hit ? A fence , some lampposts ? Then you have hit something ? but if you come to Gothenburg I will buy you a beer or till you sleep.
The "driver" of the tram , dont he have someresponseble? He had just start to going by the pump , has he no mirrors brakes ? What punishment did he get ? Probably nothing he has wheel of steel and runing on tracks then you can drive how you will , here in Sweden the allways get free ! |

Yes Dipstick, we have the same punishment in Sweden as well for that type of causing accident, and it´s also a heavy fine. The only thing that not give any punishment in Swedish traffic, is to talk in the cellphone whithout headset, when driving. |

Vasa i know what a buthead the tramdrivers is in your town, i have bin there whith my pump a few times. It´s very difficult to drive at the same street as the tramdriver - specially when they allways are allowed to behave and drive like a junkie in the traffic. I,m so glad that we only have just one tramline (for the tourists) here in Stockholm, which is no problem. We have subway instead. |

Several year back when My gf and Was in Stockholm and get lost , i saw a
green boom in the air and think he know where we are but no... But lucky for Me the pump just had broken down and Johanni was out to fix it . And He show us the right way to go . |

@ dipstick, you better knock on wood, you can never be sure you don't get an accident, i operate a pump for 18 years now mostly 34 meters but 5 years 52meters and 42 meters. in the time that i drove the 52 meterpump the firm i worked with had the only 2 52 meters in belgium and we were hot! everyday i had to get up at 3 am working till 11.30 pm. showering eating F***cking 2 hours of sleep and back on the road without a codriver. the end of the week you didn't even know if your boom was up or down when you were driving. i forgot to lay down the second section of the 52 meters after cleaning the hopper for 2 hours because the mud was allready hard and rammed a trafficlightbridge at low speed leaving the buildingsite. I left that firm 5 years ago. in that firm the motto was "time is money" now i work in a firm that says " safety is money" |

Vasa, yes i where i Gothenburg and visit Rox. Today i get a call from Rox International and they want me to buy an Olin-pump - I think my next pump will be that, so tomorrow i will call Betongpumpar Väst and talk to Mats Björklund, and let him tell me how good the Olin-pumps are. If this spring will give more job, i buy one more pump - probably a ballvalve Olin-pump. And yes, i´ve worked for Robator and i know the old fogey Juhani very well. He is a very funny (and lazy) old buffer and he knows everything about rapairing pumps. Say hello to him and Magnus Mårtensson from me next time you call Robator. I worked for Robator before i started my own company. They are a very good employer to work for but they didn´t want to hire me as an F-taxing pumper, so thats why i bought me my own pump. |

Wow Mr Murph... That sounds like a copy of the compagnie I worked for on the 52 meter.. It wasn't every day from 3 to 23:30 but it came close.. I agree I have to touch wood.. The only thing I ever hit with the 42 schwing (which is actualy just as long as the 52-4 schwing) was the garage door at our yard.. It was very tight to go in and out of the door and I just turned in a hair to early and just touched the door with the tip of the backend.. A shame the door was made out of almost only glass!! hahaha.. It can happen to everyone.. I know... But i've heard a lot about this acident and the driver was just coming fast backwards asuming traffic would stop for him. I've been in situations in the middle of amsterdam where you just have to back in to the street blind.. But than you do it insane slowly and carefully.. Look at the pic again.. He rammed himself more than a meter in to the middle of the tram... Than you're not going insane slowly and carefully.. But I shut up now... And touch a load of wood for a few hours... Everyone can make a mistake some day.. Me to.. Its such a shame some get away with it without so much of a scratch while others are unlucky and destroy a couple of lives... Life is not fair.. |

Correct my if I am wrong but I believe there was also a nice historic bridge in a place called De Rijp and a m32 that didn’t fit lol |

Dipstick | 03-02-2011 | reply profile send pm notify |
haha.. Thats true... Just for the record.. It was my very ever first day alone on a pump... It was even the first day alone on a truck.. And then they send me in to this super tiny historic center of an old ''town''.. Go figure ;-) But I was refering to the 5 years that I drove big pumps. I believe I hit a house in zaandam with that 32m also.. Just a slight touch but I remember the owner looking out the window wondering what the hell was going on.. |

@ dipstick. on your profile you stated "norway", but i allways see you talking abaout pumping in holland. what is the deal about that? because i don't imagine you swimming to holland from norway every day to go pump there? |

haha. I am a dutch man.. Used to work for the same firm as superdoffer and concretecanon.. Worked there for some years and also worked for a placing compagnie. Then I met a great girl when I was on a holiday in norway.. Moved there.. got maried.. kids.. house.. I'm here to stay!! Funny thing was that my wife was a neigbour of my curent boss.. Se played with his kids when they were small.. So when I told here what I did it wasn't so hard for me to get a job here..

Dipstick, i´m impressed that you took that step to move because of love - i like that. I think that it wasn´t easy for you to learn the Norwegian language. My self were moving (17 years ago) 650 km from south of Sweden to Stockholm because of work...not so nice reason as yours. |

It wasn't easy in the beginning.. You feel quite alone on a building site when you have no one to talk to.. Most try to avoid you because they don't feel like speeking english.. And I am a type that likes to talk and joke a lot.. But after a year it was going good. Got compliments all the time because I learned so quick. But even now its still hard to follow the jokes. |
