Customer rung up this morning saying that his concrete pump had lost its PTO. I thought he was joking till i arrived on the scene. The best bit was he made the driver remove the drive shaft for me so all i had to do was hook up and supply it with air and tow back to his yard. |

Imagine the mess that left in the road! It probably looked like a parts yard sale? |

Those pics remind me of a situation much the same. It was a putz 42 and the driveline let loose on Interstate 20 right at the morning rush hour. The folks that were next to him and behind him were less than thrilled. The company ended up buying nine or ten tires; several alloy wheels, a door, a transmission and other assorted parts. I felt sorry for the operator and the company. I had to walk up the interstate and take all the info and make the folks understand that the company was honorable and was going to take care of the damage. The only real luck we had that day was the door deal; there was no one sitting in the passenger seat where the driveshaft came to rest after going through the door. ;~) |

A few years ago we lost the shifting fork in our pump. At that time we were a one pump company and had jobs to do the next morning. Mike was about 60 miles from town - believe it or not I towed the pump 60 miles with a 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton diesel back to town. The looks we got from "passerbys" was pretty comical. (Female towing big truck with a little truck.) A tow truck was not available and we have never not shown up for a job. I did great with the clutch until about 1.5 miles from the repair center at which time I just made it a little easier to push for a few years. (and a little bit of burnt smell for a few days lol) :-) Our Mack dealer had it torn apart put back together and up and running for the next day. Deidra (PumperMikesWife)

Good case in point for stepping up maintainance procedures. The box although typically dirty on outside may not have had anything to do with outcome, however the output side driveline coming apart at speed most likely left what can be visualized as a "wrecking bar" beating its way about the back side of the box, the terrific leverage and offset weight literally tore the output support bearing housing and casting apart. The costs of upkeep on some "U" joints, or a slip joint pale in comparison to a new box replacement. The old adage, pay me now, or pay me more later. |

In the first pic did anyone see anything odd. There absolutely no indication of lubricants dripping from anything.I find it strange sinse it's already on the hook leaning back that nothing is leaking and on the ground, mmm |
