A KAWANA man was killed yesterday when a truck rolled several times down an embankment on the Bruce Hwy. It was believed the 24-year-old died instantly when the concrete pump truck left the northbound lane at Tibrogargan Creek Bridge, about two kilometres south of the Moby Vics service station at Wildhorse Mountain. It was the 15th fatality on Sunshine Coast roads this year - one below last year's annual toll. A 20-year-old male, believed to be the driver, survived the accident at about 3.20pm. It was understood he was thrown from the cab when the truck hit thick bush. Police said the truck landed on its side and hit a thick row of trees. It was believed the vehicle had rolled several times before coming to a stop. The victim was found dead in the cab when emergency services arrived. It was understood ambulance crews had tried to resuscitate the man but his injuries were too severe. The other male occupant was said to have been distressed at the scene and was taken to Nambour General Hospital with minor injuries. The northbound lane of the highway between Roys Rd and Red Lane was closed for three hours while emergency crews cleared the road. Police diverted traffic along Steve Irwin Way, although delays were substantial up until 6pm. The Sunshine Coast Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the accident. |

Sad day for all of us! Follow the rules of the road and done be distracted. I often have thought about the cab only being fiberglass. There is not much there to protect you in a crash. |

WORKMATES of a 24-year-old who died in a concrete pump truck rollover on the Bruce Hwy this week have been shattered by the loss of the popular young man. Ash Martinali was killed when the truck he was travelling in rolled down an embankment. The 27-year-old driver of the truck survived the accident after he was thrown from the cab when it hit thick bush. Access Concrete Pumping owner manager Lynette Brown said the driver had eight years of driving experience. The company is still at a loss as to how the crash happened as the truck is speed-limited to 100kmh. "Because he was thrown from the truck he could not recall what happened," Ms Brown said. Mr Martinali was found dead in the cab when emergency services arrived. The two were returning to the Caloundra base after two jobs at Redcliffe, so there was no suggestion of fatigue, Ms Brown said |

His funeral was yesterday. around 500 people turned out. he was a really good skateboarder and well like in the community. his girlfriend and him had been together since they were 14yrs old (10 years) and were the perfect couple. his parents had just arrived in europe for a 2 month holiday when the accident happened. its amazing the effect one death of a young person has on a smallish community like this one... |
