Who do you think should be in the Concrete Pumping Hall of Fame? Please submit your ideas. |

I know a few from Louisiana, Mike Hines (concrete eaters founder and president till his untimely death in Dec 2005), Ray Smith SMECO founder ,owner, Steve Kemp operator and mechanic for 30+ years, Randy Kemp owner Northlake Concrete pumping 30+ years, just a few that have promoted and made this industry a better place for many . James "nubby"Teague founder of Teague Rental Equipment, had some of the first concrete pumps in Louisiana. |

What constitutes someone or a company to be in the "concrete pumping hall of fame?" How many yards they pumped, years of service, most pumps, who changed the industry for the better, who had the biggest jobs, or who treated there employees like family and not a number. I think it would be hard to figure out who should be in or out. there have been companys that were great that aren't around anymore. I would love to hear how you would set the ground rules for this one todd. |

I am open about this but here is what i am thinking. There are many great men in our industry who will be forgotten by us and the new generation and I do not want to see that happening. Men like Harvey Hoyer, Willam Cross, Richard Obrien Bennett Brothres and so many more. Good men who lived the Concrete Pumping industry should not be forgotten. I want to establish a strong base of these men and than we can have a board who votes on the new guys that can enter it. What are your thoughts? |

Yes some of the owners should be in it, but you should look at a lot of the people under them that did the work and had the ideas, they would be the true hall of famers. A lot of the owners set up jobs in the early days and got dirty, but a lot of them didnt, they hired people with knowledge and the ability to do the work for them. You really have to split this up into different categories, owners, managment, operators. I once knew a guy that worked for O'brien and I think he pumped pig shit. Obrien leased pumps in Alaska to clean up the Exxon Valdez mess, does that mean a they came up with the idea, or a laborer in Alaska. You will have to have different categories to be fair. |

You are right "Don't need one" But I knew them in the day when they were down in the mud, the blood and beer pumping concrete like everyone else. To me hall of fame means visionary and bold - taking chances and putting everything they had into something they loved. There are a lot of Famous Owners that never pumped a job in their life expect when they pushed a button one day just to say they could pump concrete.

Beast anyone with more than 30 years should be canonized a saint, love it, or be stupid. Biloximike, most of the people I think your referring to are the old timers I was talking about. |

Develop a cirteria for enshiinement and then organize it by time periods. Take written canditates only and utilize a committee to vote on induction. Try to avoid politics. Good luck! |

I think we should nominate a fine man by the name of Ben Gioele of Teague Rental in Baton Rouge. Nub Teague was the first to bring pumps into Louisiana & Ben worked as his mechanic & manager for several decades. In 2007 Ben was able to buy the business which he has grown to 7 boom pumps, 2 line pumps & a state of the art shop. Ben has been in the industry for 30 years & is the kind of man that will be right by your side in the toughest of times. All of his operators have been there for many years due to the fact he treats his personnel with the utmost respect. I just hope one day I can learn from him what he knows |
