I've got this job grouting an old wood pipe. wood slats toungue and grooved horizontally wrapped in stainless steel bands. Condition of pipe unknown for the most part. Buried two feet. It's 1800 feet long fairly level. I'm going to approach it at 200 foot intervals having the customer embed a vent and piece of pipe for me to hook up to at this interval, while blocking off each opposing side.  Anyone have some better ideas or suggestions for me here?

A pumpable flow fill I presume. What exactly is owner trying to achieve, just filling. What you discribe sounds good.

It is too bad that the pipe is level. If there is any slope to it try and pump from the lower end. You probably have this under control; but since you asked...

Make sure that your "stub up" is solid. If the pipe is only down two feet I would believe that you would need to concrete around your stub up and make sure that it is well set before you do the pour. Also, make sure that you have a good vent for the air or whatever is in the pipe. // wooden pipe is cool; too bad it is getting filled. ;~)

A few recommendations for you, I have grouted coal mines to UST tanks and everything in between. . 1st thing make sure the pipe is clean and open, many of these have a colapse(s) and any fisher (opening/crack) will be a place that grout will go into. Make sure the bulkhead (ends)wil support the weight of the material used per verticial foot.  As far as the mix used, it will determine you need for spacing your fill points and openings if you are just 2 feet under the ground punch as many "big" holes as you like you do not have to do this under pressure provided the mix is right for the job. I have used a mix with a high fly-ash that had over 1600 lbs per yard and was able to do a pour of your type with just 2 portals using a "small" trailer unit 40 cy per hour.  and then I have done pour with mixes with the ready-mix guys "flowable fill"  a high sand mix and a boom pump and been lucky to go 50 feet. (make sure they have extra water around for those dry trucks.  As you will pump the bleed water out) so it's all about the mix flowability not really the equipment.

Good Luck and hope it turns out well

I'm going to use 1-2 grout nice and soupy, works very well here, and the pipe is not clean, bottom full of dirt and stone. Condition of pipe very much unknown, I'll let you all know how it goes the first piece I try in two weeks. Thanks for all the replies.
