Dean Hinthorne

of Gig Harbor

May 11, 1936

to Oct. 3, 2010

Dean Hinthorne, 74, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and loved ones following a four-month battle with sarcoma. Born in Seattle, Washington as the youngest of three children to Gail Ira Hinthorne and Ruth Dagmar (Baker) Hinthorne, Dean lived in King and Kitsap Counties until 2002, at which time he moved with his wife, Julie, to Gig Harbor, WA.

During his career, Dean owned his own construction company and later, his own concrete-pumping business. Dean last worked for Brundage-Bone Concrete Pumping until his retirement in 2007.

Dean was a man of strong faith and loved the Lord and enjoyed studying and discussing the Bible. He was very devoted to his family and was a wonderfully compassionate and caring person with many friends who knew they could count on him when needed. Dean loved to laugh, tell good stories and not-so-good jokes - but was greatly loved in spite of the jokes.

Over the years, Dean enjoyed keeping horses, horseback riding in the mountains, traveling, flying his plane, playing guitar, music, and attending as many Blue Grass festivals as possible. He particularly enjoyed his role as "Nanke" (Grandpa) to Brandon and Dillon and volunteered as a tutor to students at his grandson, Brandon's, school in Kingston, WA.

Dean is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters, Marci Collins (Darren) of Indianola, WA, Misty Caston (John) of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons Brandon and Dillon Collins; sisters Jean Winegar of Witchita, KS and Beverly Lermond of Snohomish, WA; nieces and a nephew and their families.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on October 12, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at the Kiana Lodge, 14976 Sandy Hook Rd, NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9884 Main Street, Damascus, MD 20872. An Online memorial can be seen at www.lewischapel.com

Thanx for posting this todd.  Dean was a great man, i had the pleasure of working with him for a little over 5 years.  He was such a great operator and just a wonderful human being in general.  I actually am running his old pump now and everytime a look at the dent in the top of the water tank i just laugh beacause i remember how  ticked he was when he did it.  I will always remember dean with a toothpick in his mouth, his hard hat on no matter if he was in the shop on the job or in the office, he always had it on it seemed.  He always and many kind words and always a helping hand if you needed one.  Dean you will be missed, farewell my friend.
