i was pouring a deck today with my 52 meter on one side and our 61 meter on the other i was on my 2nd bay and the 61 was just ahead of me on his 3rd. we would meet in the middle and pour in towards our pumps. i looked up and the 61 was swinging fast and then i saw the deck. it had a huge dip in it about 30 x 30. thankfully no one was hurt on this one. |

I've seen them do that too. twice. Not a good feeling to watch the floor turn into a sink hole. I'm glad to hear everyone was OK and got to go home at the end of the day. Funny story: During a pour -2nd floor of hi-rise - forklift operator knocks a bunch of the shoring posts out from under the slab. The whole thing shook enough that we could feel it. We were all told to get off the deck so they could determine the extent of the damage. Here's the funny part... once off the deck, guess where everyone went???? under the deck to see the damage!!! There's no way I was walking under that sucker. I'm glad I saw it 1st hand because if someone were to tell me that story, I would've thought they were joking. |

it was a parking structure in nw las vegas. we stopped pumping of course after it happened. the 61 moved did some walls and i sat there for a little bit. my boss called me over my nextel and said he talked to the super and we were done i started my water wash and in the middle of it the forman came up to me and said wash out but dont leave. i couldnt belive that they were still going to pour the deck but they did the 61 moved back and we pumped the deck. they put bulk heads around the collapse. the deck had so many cold joints it was unreal. we finally finished it at 630pm |

Todd- When I've been on jobsites where these deck 'problems' have occured, the GC's don't really like when you whip out the 'ol camera and start snapin' away. They like the pics to be in their cameras for their legal dept. to determine what needs to be seen and what never should see the light of day... |

An opinion,If I am on a pour and part of the deck collapses,it is time to clean out.I would not finish the pour without some "experts" inspecting the failed deck to see why it collapsed. That means at a minimum of at least one day.Think like this, the super puts up a bulkhead around the collapse and tries to finish the pour,oh,it will be allright. The deck falls, killing three, injuring 12.Now how would you feel. You personally have the right not to finish the pour because of unsafe work practices. All the money in Missouris banks will not replace the life of some boys Daddy......... |

One other thing, when a deck is in the collapse mode, get off the deck immediately, get on the ground, away from potential falling hazards,DO NOT stick around to take pictures.I thought people on this site had more sense than to stick around and watch. If the super doesnt agree,so be it. |
