tower hoses wraped. ??? i'm at a loss. other then an emergency, is there a logical reason to wrap the tower hoses? has anyone been told it is okay to wrap the tower hoses? have you asked your employer and owner of the equipment their policy of wrapping the tower hoses? |

It is when someone cheets the stop on the turret and forgets to tell the next man or forgets himself and breaks the hydrolic lines in the turret. |

ohhhh,I see. Yeah, that would kinda suck.Only seen that a few times but when changing machines one must always check the "turret hoses".That's what they taught us in old school 101. |

whenever I get on a unfamiliar rig with the hoses inside the turret I always check them before I unfold , just a habit I got after a fellow op had wrapped them ,does that have anything to do with a pretrip I think I would call it a pre unfold check , |

all our operators write what side the boom was folded up on on the DOT ticket. makes it easy. |

to clairifiy, booms with the ro-tec towers have the hydrolic hose run inside the bell and come out the top of the turret. also inside the bell is material pipe that comes in from the deck and out the turret. as the turret rotates the same direction the hydrolic become wraped around the material pipe. most boom pumps have a 370 degree slew radius, the cradle being 0 degree. slew more then 370 degrees in the same direction, the hoses have no more slack to wrap around the the material pipe and rip the fittings apart and there goes a section (hopefully only one) and a lake of oil. there is an electric sensing slewing limiter with all ro-tech turrets have. i am one of those operators who has deactived the limiter on the regular pump i operate. shame on me. but im still at a loss for a locigal reason the operator would not cradle the boom with the hoses in the neutral position? Boom 102 "Unfold Driver Side, Fold Up Driver Side" familiar or unfamiliar ride, do your pre trip. |
