Hello to everyone here, and can I first say what an impressive industry community you have developed here. It is very rare I come across sites such as this that are visited more frequently than monthly, let alone as regularly contributed to as these. I wonder if I could ask any of the users for some information - I am looking into the industry for some work I am doing and wondered if anyone could give me the names of some of the larger international players in the concrete pumping industry - am I right in assuming that the multinational construction firms hold the power here or are there any businesses that are purely focused on the concrete pumping element only. Also - I am not looking for manufacturers of pumping equipment etc, more businesses that supply equipment and operators on a very large scale. Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

I need to be relatively confidential, but I am going to be working with a UK operator who may be considering selling his business - most likely to the management team. However at the moment I dont really have a grasp of where the business im working with sits in the market in terms of scale etc. which I really need to know before I can start to place a value on the business. Within the UK it appears that most of the large construction businesses have divisions which provide these services rather than there being a dominant specialist provider, so am trying to get a feel for any major international businesses covering Europe and the USA. |

The value of your concrete pumping business is the present value of your machinery, as well as the present value of the goodwill your company has in the market. In other words, your brands reputation for delivering quality, good price, or whatever other niche you've decided to cater. |

Sorry, I'm aware of how the valuation of a business is madeup. Ultimately any business is worth whatever anyone else is prepared to pay for it at that time. You are also correct that the value is the net asset value plus an element of goodwill based on the strength of the business and it's reputation in the market, plus any strategic benefits therein. However in calculating that level of goodwill I need to have some sort of comparison against other firms in the industry which is impossible in the UK due to the divisional nature of the pumpers, so was hoping for names of some international specialists so that I can review those businesses and come to a conclusion as to how much that goodwill is worth.
