How offen is a DOT inspection needed on a Boom Pump, since there are not any scales that I would ever have to drive threw to be checked since I run Fixed load tags in Tennessee in the old days DOT would set up a temp scales and weigh trucks I don't know if they done inspections at that time. |

I know up here that if the Ministry decides they want to inspect your vehicle, they will do it right there on the spot. From time to time the set up in areas for a day and just pull in everything they see. I have not been checked while in my pump, but I have been stopped a number of times with other vehicles. Most have just been paperwork checks. As for annual stickers or licences we don't require them in Ontario because pumps are considered like cranes to the effect that there work is primarily done off-road and the only time the road is used is to travel from site to site. I don't even have a plate or any kind of tag on my pump. |

The name of the game is to protect your ass. If you get in a wreck, even if it's not your fault, and the lawyer's discover that you're not doing the mandatory annual DOT inspections, you're going to be in a lot of trouble. It's stupid, but that's how the game's played. |

DOT is the Federal Annual. If you are commercial then it has to be done once a year. Also you need to keep records for all the work you do on your rig i.e how often you insepect and, maintain the brakes, drivelines and, all fluid levels. You will need it in court if anything ever happens where there is a lawsuit, wether your fault of theirs. |

federal law is the same all over must have inspection anually and regular maintenance must also be done and records kept for up to three years after you sell the pump |
