Downhill prime

This job went off without a hitch.  I used 20 gallons of slurry.  I am wondering if there is such a thing as too much slurry?  I put 15 gallons in my primer port and 5 in the beginning of the 3 inch hose.

Also I primed it all out in one shot.  It was only 120 ft of line.  Does anybody think that it is better to prime out the boom and then prime out the hose or is it better to do in one shot?  If so why?  I have heard it both ways.

When I go down hill I put a soft ball in line push it in with a 2/4 and poor 1 five gallon pail of slick pack in the ball is for slowing down primer so it gets the whole pipe not just the bottom part of pipe just be carfull of ball coming out of pipe end.

Here is another picture.  Only the first 3 hoses where downhill.

That's the way, lots of slurry & idle it out the end.

I like using something ahead of the prime also, a sponge, a wad of paper, the arm off a sweat shirt haha! Anything to slow it down and keep it from flowing downhill ahead of the concrete. I've never used one in the boom only in system. I would have dropped the 3rd section a bit and hyperextended the tip to flatten it out & slow it down, then put the rabbit in the hose.

Like this... But not all booms will do that.

I've even put a sandwich bag over the end of the hose then put on the gasket & clamped it up. It slows it down then rips open easily when the concrete gets there. It's not something I'd suggest but I've done it in a pinch.

Oh sorry for movin your boom around man!

Yeah I should've done that.  I was worried about it flowing down hill but it didn't ooze out much as most of the hose was above the ground and flat.  I would've probably lost a little reach and had to use more hose though...  it worked out ok...

I always used a spoung or something like TT says.I liked to go for it all at once.I did pour some in the hose,no guts no glory. To each there own,I liked the simple way (1500' up/down) on the ski slopes.

For me it depends on two things, what kind of mix and what size hose.  9 times out of ten i always do the boom first.

I like to prime the boom first it gets rid of the rubbish , them you can prime your line , but doesnt always work like that..... Good job getting it through , nice pics!!

Yeah me too bigstick, I went so long without ever seeing or having one that I never bothered using the ones I have seen.

Every time there is a clamp put easy wrap on the pipe first then the rubber. you must poke a hole on the top side to allow air to pass. i do this on all line pours and since have never plugged.it traps the water so it doesnt get too far ahead
