I have a question what is the protocol if a pump takes a jolt from a power wire.... I know a operator who took one a few days ago here in Ontario Canada no one was hurt and the voltage was low but it did burn the point were it arc to on the boom.... I Told him to take the pump out of service and have everything inspected but he is unwilling too do so. Now from a liability point of view Since I told him too do this and he refuses does any liability fall on me....

They are lucky no one was seriously hurt or killed. This is serious if there are arc marks on the boom. I have attached the recommended Schwing proceedure which needs to be followed. The Ontario Ministry of Labour needs to be notified as well.

I wanted to thank those who care about this industry and those in it. I just got this email from just such a person.

He also needs to have an expert tire guy come by an check on his tires - in all the power line contacts I am aware of and been involved with there were burn spots on the tire where the electricity jumped to the ground.  This is especially important  on the front tires and in fact I would just change the front tires out and junk them.  He also needs to pull all wheels and closely inspect the bearings.  We have found burn marks on some of them.  These are problems that will show up weeks or months later when they blow a tire or bearing go out.  If this causes an accident and a lawyer can find out thru discovery that they hit a power line with that truck then they are toast - pardon the pun!

He should also contact Hydro One or whichever one services that area and have them check the lines for any damages to insulators or transformers. As for you being liable for his actions, you offered your opinion, whether he chooses to follow it is out of your control. The Ministry of Labor should definetly be contacted as well, with you knowing about the incident and all (just to be on the safe side).
