I think I have about had it with this industry,I have always prided myself on being a standup guy, honest, hardworking, and a man of my word, today the owner of the company told a guy from out of state who was broke looking for work (a pump operator) to come down take a drug test and as long as he passed he would help with the expenses of moving and finding a place to stay, this fellow drove 9 hours got here passed the test only to find the owner left to go out of town without so much of as leaving him gas money to return home to his family,oh and the guy went on a linepump to help the operator during the day,now I have spent 3 hours trying to find this guy a job, hooray at 6 pm this evening a company I used to work for said they would give him the help he needs boy its nice to know some people in this world still have a heart, all I could do was give him $150 to help him find is way home to get back to his family,my question is do you continue to work for a man with such low morals and compassion or do you look elsewhere for a job with a owner with a heart? |

Man I am really sorry this happened to this operator, I am very glad you were there to help him. Good job. I bet you would make a good friend and a great manager. The only thing you can do at this point is wait and see. Wait and see what the owner does when he gets back. He might have just messed up really bad, I agree it really sucks but maybe he is dealing with some real issues and forgot about that operator. I dont really like using myself as an example but sometimes it just works so here goes. Once in a while I forget to pick my kids up from school. One time my 3 year old daughter and I went to a birthday party about an hour from my house and as we were driving my daughter fell asleep in the car. When I got to the restaurant were the party was and went in side my wife said "where is Taylor" I said ah ah ah and then I remembered she was in the car and must of fell asleep. SO as you can see we all have forgotten stuff, I even forgot my own kids. Maybe this owner just blew it. Wait and see. But one thing I do know is that this operator was lucky you were there to help, good job.

KEEP YOUR COOL AND YOUR JOB. Your owner has different priorities and hopefully just forgot what was going on. See how things look when he gets home. The main objective is to get the guy a place to stay and some way to make buck$. ;~) |

The best way to get a gauge on someone is to look at their history. Is he/she always doing this particular thing? When the boss gets back ask him/her,what happened, and do it in a way that will not cause any friction.Although painful as it may be this is a situation that is part of being an operations manager. |

Bob's right, I was trippin with out a "trip permit". I got a little pissed over the subject cause I've been the guy that drove 9 hours. I have read lots of your post's and message's pudg. You are top shelf and being top shelf lets you speak your mind a bit. What are they gonna do, Fire you?.....Did'nt think so. Thats the top shelf advantage. Its why your an operations manager. I'd still let the owner know how he left a man hang'n. It was most likely the last thing on his mind, you know how our owners get. Dont judge him for it until you hear his side. Who knows the guy could have been un-insureable? You did a good thing and helped out a brother...Like I said, Top-Shelf! |
