Nice pictures brother, I've been a member of this site for some time now but only recently started checking out this message board. It's obvious that you take good care of your pump so I assume you are concerned about it's mechanical well being. I say this because one of your pics shows you filling your water box above your diff. cyl. rods. This is a very harmful to your hyd. system. As I'm sure your aware for most all things, heat expands while cool contracts. You can see this in your sight gauge for your hyd tank, at the end of the day it will be higher than it was that morning. This is the reason for concern, if you fill your water box above your diff rods, when your oil cools and contracts it will actually draw water into your hyd system past the diff seals. Hyd cyl seals are meant only to keep oil from coming out, not to stop anything from coming in, that is the job of the wiper but submereged in water at all times they will surely let some through. I don't mean to imply you'll drain your water box into the hyd system, but the trace amounts that get in every day over the span of years is significant. I hope you take no offense to my observation, my hope is that I'm sharing information with a fellow enthusiast that loves his pump as much as I love mine. I've been pumping since 1988, and I still look for every oppurtunity to learn something new from any source, hope you feel the same way. On a lighter note, as soon as I get some free time, I'll post some pics of my pump. I think you'll appreciate it, besides we're in the same neighborhood, I'm up in Santa Rosa and also OE 3. Keep an eye out and keep up the good work. Way to represent brother.

Larchy,

No offense Taken. I actually was told what you said years ago. The only reason my water box got that full is because I thought I would get a photo but the camera was in the cab. I drained it down past the seals after that shot. Now there has been some controversy about this. I know for a fact that a Schwing will create a suction at the end of the day from the heat ,and water will bypass the seals into the  hyd. tank creating contamination. I was told by several folks at Putz. that their design will not do this. but to be on the safe side I keep it below the seals. Thats a good eye on your part. I learned the hard way years ago running a 45 Schwing when they first came out. thought I was doing a great job draining my water box every day and filling it to the top ! Untill my hydrolic fluid had gotten contaminated with fines and water.

To anyone reading this post ,All Pumps drop your waterbox every night. fill it in the A.M.  this will keep your Unit Happy :-)and the boss man. LOL

Good to see that you are posting.. you work for Castle ? I have been going to Santa Rosa about three times a week, mater of fact I had a late Saturday start up there yesterday. hope to see some pics of your rig !
