Is anyone on here as freaked out by this swine flu as I am, I'm stocking my pantry today The CDC is telling if thier is a severe outbreak we cant go outside to the grocery store or anywhere. Lets keep each other informed if anybody is infected. Maybe I'm just paranoid but this sounds very serious. |

I am making an exception to the no post policy because of this Swine Flu. Avoid crowds. Have your wife do her shopping at ‘off hours.’ Cut out movies, public swimming pools, mall crawl, busy restaurants, after work bars with the guys. Avoid crowded places, spend some quality ‘home’ time with your family. Purchase some waterless disinfectant hand sanitizer; keep one in your ride, one in the boss’s purse. If the kids are of the age where they will understand the danger potential, talk to them. Washing your hands as soon as you get home is a must. Real deal soap and water scrubbing. Set an example for your kids to follow. Like it or not they will key off of what you do more than what you say. If you are out, keep the kids close. Pay attention to the what and where their hands are doing. No chomping fries at Mc D’s before their [or your] hands are clean. If you do not HAVE to travel away from home, don’t; and air travel is the worst. Last year’s flu shots are a joke; don’t waste your money. Wait for the new effective batch. Don’t be the one responsible for bringing this disease home to your family. If there is no way to avoid a crowded situation wear a mask. The ‘dust’ masks that you use at work are not designed to stop germ transfer. Your best shot is the blue “dentist†mask. The guy making fun of you for wearing it will get sick, not you. Please take care of yourself and your family. ;~) |

Thanks Bob, I am in total agreement with you. Me and the wife went to the grocery store today and bought $500 in groceries just in case. Dont want to sound like a nut job, but I am really afraid this is not going to end well. I hope and pray I'm wrong. Everybody stay informed and keep in contact with your loved ones. Anybody read Steven King's The Stand? Captian Tripps may be on the way. |

I just heard on the news that the swine flu is not as bad as the normal flu. Its milder and that its just the flu. 36,000 people die from the flu every year.
We dont need to go stock up on guns and food, not saying it bad to have guns or food, i have both but dont live your life in fear. Its the babies and old people, week and sickly that die from the flu. If i see someone walking around with a mask, i am going to start to cough around them just for fun.
People we are going to be ok, dont freak out. |

The japanese people you see walking around with masks aren't paranoid about getting sick, they are already and wears the mask so others won't get sick. |

It is not air borne and can only be contracted from an infected pig(swine) or from being very close to a person that is infected. Same flu like symptoms but can lead to severe respratory infection, this is what sets it apart from typical influenza. Wash hands frequently, the waterless hand wash is a good idea, you can buy small pocket size bottles for .99 cents. I worry most about the kids at school! especially the boys, they never wash their hands. I sat them down and explained how important it is and showed them what's been happening in the news papers We wont be getting any piglets for pork chops this year! With all the "mad cow" and sick swine I think we're sticking with the wild game in the meat dept? And no you cant catch it from eating a pork chop. |

One thing that comes with age is accumulated knowledge. It doesn't mean old people are smart it just means old people have more experience. I experienced this; check out the fatalities. The main difference being that today people travel more and have the capacity to transmit germs more widely and rapidly. But hey, what the hell, it ONLY Kills babies and older sic people, right? The Asian Flu Pandemic of 1957-58 began in southern China, infecting 1-4 million people world-wide. A decade later, the Hong Kong Flu infected an estimated 1-3 million people around the globe. Deadly genetic mixtures of human flu with bird or swine variants, these viruses targeted vulnerable young or elderly victims. Since the mid-20th century, medical professionals have watched with alarm as different strains of swine or avian flu jump into the human population. Thus far, however, Asia has not produced another global pandemic. The Asian Flu of 1957-58 (subtype H2N2):In February, 1957, a new strain of influenza was found in East Asia. Originating in Guizhou, a province in south-central China, the virus quickly spread to Singapore. Hong Kong reported cases in April, and the disease hit the US in June. The Asian Flu was identified as a form of avian influenza, normally found in wild ducks, which had crossed with a human virus. It was named H2N2; the H and N numbers designate the proteins on the outside of the virus that bind to target cells in the victim. Since influenza is a sloppy sort of virus, it easily recombines and mutates - and human immune systems cannot always keep pace. The Human Toll of the Asian Flu Pandemic:The 1957-58 pandemic was rated a category 2 out of 7 on the Pandemic Severity Index, with a 7 being "apocalyptic." [The so-called Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918, which killed as many as 100 million people world-wide, rates a 5.] According to the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, the Asian Flu killed almost 2 million people around the globe, including some 69,800 in the United States. It was most deadly for the elderly. The flu seemed to have burned itself out by December of 1957, but in January and February of 1958, a "second wave" struck. This rebound effect is not uncommon during influenza epidemics, as the virus finds a new pool of people to infect. It also remained in the wild duck population. |

Well Bob its good to see that someone in this world dont think I'm crazy. Everytime I see something like this come up I do as much research as possible. I may be way off on this one but I think this is end of the world, old testament stuff that the end is near, if I'm wrong then everyone can have a good laugh, but if I'm right at least I tried to warn people. If the shit hits the fan come to my house I have plenty of food and ammo. Damn I sound like one of those militia people I used to make fun of twenty years ago!!!! |

when your number is called its called,no matter if its the flu, cancer, heart attack, car accident or others when god starts calling angels home just pray that you are one of them. if what I have read is true the common flu is just as deadly if not treated just be proactive and dont putoff going to see doc and we should be fine , the scare tactics used by the media is a hoax watch your elderly loved ones and young ones and let the doctors do what they do cure people for outrageous rates so have your wallet handy |
