How many of you have problems with your water tanks freezing up, my sulusion both of my pumps have heated tanks now the last one I just finished this week this is very easy to do ,I put a 1 inch half weld on fitting on each side of the tank then screw in a 1500 watt 110 volt water heater element put a extenion ring weld it on the so it will protect the element then get a 2 X4 handy box line up the knock out put a chase nipple for the wires to run from the lower box, then buy a lower temp thermostat put it in the smaller box so it touches the back of the box,get a 3 wire 16 gauge cord , put the white wire on one pole of the element then the black on one pole in the thermostat the get a peice of number 12 run it from the other pole on the thermostat to the other pole on the element put a little peice of foam so it will keep the thermostat pushed  up against the wall of the tank , Then get your self some 1 1/2 inch foam and rap the tank you can use alumiun tape to hold it in place then get some 22 gauge metal and cover the form so it want get blown off while driving, fill your tank set the thermostat for 125 degrees plug in your cord to and 110 volt outlet , this is easyer than running two hose's from your truck cooling  system and having something rub a hole in a hose.

Good tip. But I don't like to mix AC power with water...
Luckily it don't get very cold over here.
If I fill it up with hot water, about 90C, in the morning it's still warm in the evening when I wash, about 30C I would guess, and that's in -20C weather.
Up north where it gets down to 35 and under we use 24V heat cables in the tanks.

I changed out the 90° on the bottom of my tank with a tee and, a bushing for the waterheater element. Put the dump valve and, the 90° on the other part of the tee. I let the crews get water from that, my guys dont get greedy with my water or, I would close it off.

That thing that looks like a giant grease rag folded up in my toolbox is an elec.blanket. One of my many reasons for having a power inverter in the cab!

I also keep a little bucket of calcium chloride pellets with a lid on it as well as a propane bottle torch. That calcium gets so hot when water is added to it will turn a plastic bucket into rubber!

Go to a wrecking yard and get an old block heater of a diesel.  Cheap a works very well.  Plug in at night and un-plug before you leave.

I leave every morning with warm water, but my valves and line are usually froze by the time I washout. Been carrying a little torch deally to thaw them.

I am seriously thinking about a little RV antifreeze in my wash water. The eco stuff, any ideas???

I used some heavy wall 1/2" copper tubing. made a coil out of it. Running engine coolant threw it. I just drain my water pump and run windshield solvent threw the pump and hose.

Warm water a must run the lines from your coolant into a heat transfer tube in the tank I have seen micky mouse things done to pumps for hott water and just do what the manufacturer says because they thought of all this I think Swing has the best heat the water is so hot on some pumps you could make tea or coffee with it...lol

Electric water heaters on pump tanks are just as safe as your home water heaters anybody with brains can be safe just unplug it before you drive away we have to start your engine and wait til the air builds up do a walk around your truck before you drive out check your tires make sure you got your water hose, my self I would rather have an electric heater than a engine heater cause of having to run copper lines cause thing will rub together get a tiny hole now you are down no water in your cooling system if the pump manufactors had have used this type of heater its a lot easyer to fix by putting two element in if one stops working switch to the other just remember to vent your tank and as far as your drain line a peice of heat trace taped to it and if you have an inverter plug it in when you drive away just your drain lines not the tank. I will get some pictures of mine.

For my lines I have two petcocks on feed line. One is below the waterpump on the main feed line and, the other is behind the frame for the 1/2 inch line. I steal water from the mixers till I have to clean out and, that is the only time I put water in the line. Then when Im done I take off the hose shut off the feed valve and, open the petcocks and, it is drained. Havent had a line freeze in years, unless Iam having a braindead day.
