Be honest now,how often do you grease the undercarriage of your pump?,and do you do it properly? How about the turret?I have been behind on mine, although my turret does get grease,it is the undercarriage that was lacking, especially the brake adjusters.

I try to grease my chasis a few times a year and the boom once a month.  Lube the slewing gear once or twice a year as well.

The truck gets grease and a brake check every week. The Boom is around the 15th of every month and the turret gets it as I see fit depending on the amount of slewing I have to do.

In normal conditions every 300 truck hours (hour meter).

On all the trucks I can remember there was always a little sticker telling/suggesting you to grease the turret every day the truck is used.So in all honesty mine gets grease 10 times a month. When greasing u-joints I try to clear all old grease and make sure grease is coming out all four seals,if not u-joint wear is inevitable, change it.Do we all reach up behind the wheels and actually grease the brake adjuster and shaft, because we have ops that don't even know they exist.Another spot that usually gets missed are the shift-linkage u-joints on an MR.Grease use to be relatively "cheap"

One shot in the slack adjustors is plenty.

You can not make up for not lubricating by doing twice as much the next time. Blowing the dust cups off of your u-joints  is counterproductive.

" Purging flushes old grease and contaminents from bearing assemblies and indicates that grease is getting in to the right places.I see plenty of cases where people are greasing their u-joints,but they are not making sure all the cups are being purged,if the cups are too tight or if there is some kind of blockage, grease cannot flow into the bearings." according to Dave Heinz a driveline rebuilder at Catco in Burnsville,Minn.

"Greasing a slack is simple, lock the grease gun onto the zerk and then slowly pump the grease gun untill grease emerges somewhere on the slack adjuster, you want the mechanism full of grease ,meaning the slack is "purged"of air"according to Pete Rutt, service manager at Pennsylvania truck center.

The old

'everything - every week'

method worked for me.

The guy that never needed to meet the guy at the drive line shop.

I have automatic greasers on my pump for hopper end and boom, then we have lube man that does our truck once a week top to bottom and end to end,but I still grease my agitator before every pour and after just to push the setiment out of the cups

How often does a boom need grease? It doesn't get dirt in it. Or even move that much? Hopper and pump parts I can see. I use to grease too often. By looking at some of these clean pumps it looks like they don't grease that much. I grease my boom every two to three weeks, and my pump everyday.

The most wear on boom pins occurs when un-folding/folding boom. You cannot over-grease a boom, turret gets grease every day, boom gets grease once a week, ideally.A well greased truck is always better than an undergreased, shiny truck.Hopper needs grease every 50 yds. or every 2 hours.

the reason the boom is clean is 'DE-greaser',  when you got monkeys greasing the boom every week, it dont stay clean for long.  i almost miss the days when i serviced the truck & pump.

for those who say the boom doesnt move that much,I can see that statement on a roll and fold but these z booms move constantly we grease ours once a week and we wipe the grease zerks and clean the boom

paychecks, if you cant do it our way you dont get one for long, that approach works pretty well in these hard times
