Job card said; Bridge deck Hinze Dam, Schwing 39m + 30m of 3 1/2 hose, 3 men, 7:00am concrete, leave yard 5:30am, 1hour travel, 30min setup. Our supervisor told me that the set up is going to be tight, and we will get a quick plant inspection done on site, which I thought unusual, usually we have to go to the main contractor’s workshop before every job which was about 20mins away from this job site. We get a call on route to go to the work shop to get the plant inspection done, ok……. Maybe they put concrete is on a call??. So got the plant inspection and head out to job, come around a tight corner and what would be crawling up the hill in front of us............ yes you guessed it, was a can of concrete, I said to the other operator with me, bet you that is our concrete:-) so we get to site about 7:30am, there is concreter waving me in two were to set up, but I pull up on the road and get out to have a look, he comes over a said, were have you been??, did you get lost??? No no told about the plant inspection, so how long is it going to take to set up, concrete is on the road, mmmm:-) yes I see that, I followed it here, well the trucks are 10mins apart, there is 4 truck waiting, so we get it all set up and back the first truck on, check the first docket 40mpa 20mm agg 80mm slump,  batched 6.15am so I ask the concrete tester if we are allowed to add any water because it was not looking like the nice 80mm slump it was meant to be around, he said I would have the ask site forman, who was not on site, and there was no engineer on site either?? So the concreters tell the aggie driver to put water in and tell us to get pumping, so I prime the boom, lift it up to the deck put a bucket of slurry down the hose, hook up and pump on, we get half way through the second truck and someone jumps on my horn, pump off:-/? The tester got hold of the site engineer and told him about the concrete being 2hour+ old so making it out of spec. Well they ended up sending 8 loads away, which we work out to be around $20,000 + disposal. So we blow the hose out, blow the boom (chamber valve) and cleaned the hopper were we sat, then waited 1 hour 30mins for concrete to be rebatched and sent out. So part from the few small hic ups above the job went well after we started again;-)

Yes Johnno I remember that day. By the way the foreman onsite out there no longer works for that company as he was the one who stuffed the organisation of the pump check and concrete ordering. It was good finally a job when we didnt have to pay for turned away concrete. By the way where is the picture of me on the hose at Pindara?

80mm slump is about 3.5" I think . The smoke isnt smoke its probably hyd oil and diesel being sprayed through a pressure bottle .

Nice pics jonno looks like a fun job lol.

SUPERDOFFER : can vary between $aus150 and $AUS200 for 20mpa 20agg 80 slump.

Filthy: That explains why the next time we were there, there was no end of engineers and foremans.  I'll be putting the pictures up soon.

Murf: The main contractor has a company policy that all equipent needs to be checked for safety features and all paperwork is correct and they just carry this out in a workshop.

getRdone: Drews right about the "smoke".  I'm not to sure about the slump conversion but looking on a ruler its around 3"-3.5".

Thanks Drew man.
