The better way is to get a sack of clean sand (might need more depending on hopper design) dump it in the bottom of the hopper stroke the s tube a few times to push it into all the places that you usually have to chip out after a long pour. Not worth the hassle in my opinion unless pumping longer then 3hours. I was told is called "sand packing the hopper"

Yea I forgot about this trick. Works specialy well with the swing hopper. Put some sand in the corners. We've got a 300hr non-stop job comming up.. I think I will try this trick :-)

we did this years ago on the whiteman pumps these things were nightmares to washout , but I found it was easier to washout without the sand in the in the newer pumps unless its just a very long day , the sand tends to cause build up is what I have seen , if you have a hopper with large dead spots no doubt the sand or dirt will help.

Its actualy quite unnessecary with al this buildup as long as you have the right design on the hopper. I used to drive an old schwing, must be 90s model. That hopper was so well designed I rarely had any buildup.. So its possible. If you have a lot of buildup in the hopper its a bad designed hopper period.....

So that kind of brings us the the big problem we have on this planet at the moment:  Instead of using all these resources on inventing new things.. Lets first make the things we have work propperly.
