While finishing collage, I was driving a mixer to make a few extra $$$.  I coerced the Owner into showing me how to run a pump and havent looked back.  Oh ya, I did graduate, twice as a matter of fact.  With two degrees I still wouldnt change my job unless I absolutely had to.

After I ets'd out of Army at Ft Carson moved to Denver.Hired on as a mechanic with Weaver Const. They bid and recieved a job above Douglass,Wy.Either because I was stuipid or mech inclined I was elected to run a new (used) concrete pump.

It was a Whiteman swing tube trailer (ser #1) in all it's glory.I learned how to pump concrete over the phone (true) and made every mistake one could wish for. There was 100' out and 375' vert and 3" max at pump then down out 375' over face of dam.

I saw a future in pumps and really liked that 2001 that was a back up out of Casper. This is where I met and found out what a jerk Les Ainsworth is (aka LCS).That was 1976,I learned to apprieciate good owners.

Just the facts

started at 15 doing line work for the ol man, then progressed to a trailer pump at 17 when i got my licence, which Was hauling a 30m/hr 3 ton ritemixer( reincarnated case pump) and 100m of line around. Progressed to an ackpump 10.5m boom when i fell asleep one mornin on the way back from a job and wrote the trailer unit off. Then moved up to a p60 with a 750 boom. Some people would like to go back in time-me?-NEVER!!

I was twenty and was working for a guy who did timber sales. He also had two concrete pumps a c-30 and a sidewinder rock. It was very slow construction wise but got out a few times a week. A long story later had started pumping on my own, 100 to 200 yards a day,did i mention I was young? Went to a town east of here and set up, mixer driver pulls up and says wheres the job? I said behind the house. He says how am I going to get back there? I said we are going to pump it, He says whats a pump? We have caught up with the millinum now!

I was building log cabins in E.Tenn and, we did all of our own work except for roofing. One day we were filling block the good old fashioned way with wheel barrows and, buckets so, I told my boss you know they make pumps for this kind of job. So I told him to hire a pump and, if he didnt like it, I would pay for it, well they were in and out in an hour and, my boss said Im buying one of those things and, I became a groutpumper. I operated a use Mayco and, a new Higgins for about three years, till my boss died and, I called a boomcompany and, got hired and, they helped me to get my CDL as well. He said if I could operate operate a grout pump all over the Smokies I was hired. My last block job was 4 block high in the front of the house and, 100 block high in the back.

I started out like 38Zman running heavy equipment and gravel trucks. A little over a year ago our pump operator ( so-called ) decided to quit so I was asked if I wanted to do it. He gave his 2 week notice went out with me one day then never came back. After practicing in the yard doing some booming to get the hang of it I headed out to my first set of walls. That pump was a 1986 32m schwing which I ran for 2 months, then my company bought a 2007 36m Putz which I still operate today and enjoy every minute of it.

When asked if I would go back to trucking I just tell them that even my worst day pumping with even constant plugs, is still better than any day of trucking.

My Dad bought in 2003 an old 875 thomsen 1979 and after the first month he was working with he got his hand eaten by the flipper valve while cleaning it .(He wanted to save time so he let it pump very slowly to clean each side )So two weeks later my dad was going to the hospital in the morning while i was at school and after he was driving and i was operating and cleaning the pump. This is how we started. We run up to four pumps my dad,my brother,me and a employe.Today we are only me and my brother .I got a 36m and he got a 28m .

in 92 i was driving a mixer, and the first time i backed up to a pump i was impressed,a brand spankin new 52m putz.awsome i told Butch the oper.from carolina concrete pumping.now coastal carolina.talked to him and all other opers.i deliverd to,they told me to stay where i was .i did for ten years and was recruted by opers where i am now,and there all gone.i guess what realy got me was that sound, you know the one at 2 or 3 in the early morning when the pump is strolling and all else is quiet? is it just me or can you hear it to? I love it.
