Well I just started 3 weeks ago with Pumpco and the are really treating me good. Everyone is real friendly and proffesional. I have a good feeling about working for them. They seem to have taken a liking to me too :) I hope to provide them with my services for many years to come. http://www.pumpoperators.com/brian/ I love to pump concrete. It is in my blood. I will do whatever it takes to do the job right and safely! Almost 20yrs under my belt and still learning.

I just started working for a company in the midwest and am enjoying learning how to run a pump. 3 months in and have learned quite a bit. Couple questions-What is proper training period? 1 day, 1 week, month? Do most companies have a salesman(we do- what do they do?) Any advice from some guys with experience on making a smooth transition to being one of the guys?

Hey PumpGuy, Pumping concrete is one of the few jobs in the world where you are surrounded by operators who know what your going through or have been there before. Once you really get the hang of things and get several jobs under your belt, you will not want to do anything else. Training period is all based on you and how the company feels with you. I went from a line pump to a boom, several years ago, in 1 week time. Now modern day technology allows for radios, so your help is never more than a call away. You are your best salesman for the company. Do your best to make your company money while saving that customer money. You will learn the ways of that. The customer will, and I mean will, request you back on his job. When that happens, you will at that time be part of the guys. Always remember, Concrete will get hard no matter how tired you are.
